Eating pre-op...and UHC Insurance...
I'm having a heck of a time trying to eat as I would AFTER the surgery.....BEFORE THE SURGERY! I am going to my 3rd dietitian appt. at Dr. Myer's office on Monday, and I have not been able to eat on the schedule the dietitian needs me to use. I start out okay in the morning, but then, I need to drink WHILE I am eating solids to get the food down. It is hard to PRETEND that I have already had the surgery...where you have no appetite.....while I am still used to eating with my present appetite. Has anyone else had this problem? I WANT to do it, but it seems to be a puzzle to me, for some reason, as to HOW to do it. I am new on here and any suggestions would be appreciated. My insurance company is UHC, and my husband's employer's contract, City of Columbus, does NOT cover bariatric surgery, so I am hoping that after going thru the pre-op testing and appts. required by Dr. Stevan Myers on my own dime, UHC will issue me a waiver. I have many co-morbidities. Has anyone else had a problem with UHC? Thanks so much....Les :)

I had UHC but without the exclusion and they were very easy to work with. It's hubby's employer who selected the policy with the exclusion so you'll want to have him pleading with them, for it's really out of UHC's hands because of their contract agreement.

Thanks, Valerie....I have, in fact, already started dealing with City of Columbus Human Resources Dep't. about this issue, and they requested that I get all pre-testing done, at my OWN expense, then UHC would look at it and decide. I am at the end of testing now, and it will be sent in to UHC in the next 2 or 3 weeks, I suppose. This is adding YEARS of STRESS to my life!!! Thanks again, Les :)

I agree with Valerie- my husband's employer had UHC and had the weight loss exlcusion. He was laid off and we had to switch insurance to my employer. My employer still had UHC but did not have the exclusion. I was covered for a revision very quickly (within 2 weeks) so I think it is City of Columbus HR you need to speak with not UHC.
