Post surgery ?'s

I am 2 weeks post surgery and have a couple questions.  While I did a ton of research on everything about gastric bypass surgery, and recovery, and diet, it isn't what I expected.  I was told that in these first couple weeks I would have to force myself to eat.  Not true, I am always hungry.  Is this normal?  I was also told food would'nt taste the same, or wouldn't stay down.  Again not true.  Everything tast wonderful, and has stayed down.  I am following the diet, eating slowly, and in small amounts.  I have lost about 15 lbs, but am afraid that the intence hunger that made me eat before surgery, will make me eat now, and I wont lose weight.  Any insight would be helpful.

There are no extra points for martyrdom, so consider yourself lucky to have an easy recovery.  There's nothing wrong at all with an easy recovery.  Just keep doing the right things and watch yourself melt.

I know your post is several weeks old, but in case you come back and read this.... I didn't expereince intense hunger the first couple of weeks.. but it did hit me like a ton of bricks once I was on soft foods and then on transition foods in my first month onward... It was aweful and I thought for sure I was going to fail because I was always hungry.

I finally figured it out! I was actually not eating often enough. I was so busy worrying about eating perfectly to plan that I wasn't listening to my body.. I was still healing and needed to get food in more often. For me, adding snacks between meals.. PLANNED snacks ( a cheese stick at 2pm) was the exactly what helped me succeed.

At 2 weeks out I suspect you're still eating liquids or soft foods (what ever your center adviced)... try adding a protein shake, try not to go as long between planned meals.
Best advice at this point is to listen to your body... Learn the differnce between the old head hunger and your body actually needing nutrition!
