What is the follow up with them like?

I can tell you I had Dr Choban for surgery and she is the best. She is no nonsense in her approach but makes sure you are aware of what is going on. I am 7 weeks post op and down 36 pounds. I did have trouble with the bariatric coordinator losing some of my paperwork, and I had to keep checking to make sure she "received" what had been sent to her. I ended up calling my insurance company myself to see if they had gotten everything they needed. I would highly recommend Dr Choban!

I have been a patient of Dr. Chobans since March 2007.  I would give her nothing but a high recommendation.  She is very good at what she does.  She took out my Gallbladder first and then I had the Lap Band put in.  Unfortunately, the Lap Band did not work for me.  I only lost 12 lbs.  However, I did have it removed and converted over to a Gastric Bypass by Dr. Choban AND Dr. Price in January of this year.

I agree with Lorilynn about getting paperwork processed.  However, I know that the coordinator is doing a job for two people.  I heard that they were suppose to add an additional job to assist her with all of the things that she does.  I also wanted to mention that there are a lot of people out there who have gone with Dr. Choban OR Dr. Price because of not only their bedside manner but also they tell it like it is and make sure that you understand everything.  They both really care about their patients and are highly trained in their field.

I had Dr. Price for my surgery in March 2008 and I loved him also. I second the motion for everything Marie said above. Dr. Price has his younger partner Dr. Marcus Miller see me for my follow up appointments and fills for my lapband and I've come to love Dr. Miller too. I've talked to several folks who had Dr. Miller for their surgery both RNY and lapband and they have nothing but good things to say about him too.

I also love the Bariatrice Nurse Coordinator for Mt. Carmel Bariatric Center - Melissa Webb. She runs a great support group and has been post WLS herself for more than 10 years and also had some post WLS plastic surgery with Mt. Carmel's Dr. Shah and she looks wonderful.

i had dr price for my rny surgery on april 6th.  i have not really had a true follow up yet.  i had my one week follow up to get my drain tube out. i really like dr price A LOT.  i have known him for many years as he has treated my own mother since he began his residency at mt carmel!  he can seem very ****y, etc.  but he is a very caring and compassionate man.  he is a wonderful dr. and knows what he is doing.  i have my first real follow up the end of this month (may) with him.  to answer your question about them giving you all the information you need....well you really get all your information from the dietician as she goes into great lengths to tell you what you can eat, etc.  they also give you a schedule to follow for after your surgery so you dont wait for the dr to move you from one thing to the next.....ex: you start on full liquids for 1-2 weeks, then move to the next level....but you do this on your own.  hope i was helpful.  ;-)  good luck!

Hey Steph....I strongly reccomend Dr. Patricia Choban. She is the greatest. I love her straight forward, honesty, experience, and your questions are not just one liner answer's! She makes sure you hear what she says and understand!
I had an Open RNY on April 1st and I feel blessed that I am doing very well. I have read horror stories and what very scared but she sails you through. No fancy pre-op diets and cleansing. She is deeply caring and connected to her patients.
