I am 12 wks post-op and am still having a terrible battle with diarrhea, Seems like everytime I eat anything other than yogourt or soup I have it. When I am at work it is bad too I am always going to the bathroom about 20-30-mins after eating. I stay pretty much away from greasy foods, but I do eat alot of salads and fruits, and now things I have ate before are giving me trouble, bad gas, diarrhea seems like all the time. I seem to run to the bathroom alot with this. it is embrassing to have this happen at work and it has gotton to the point that at home I have had a couple of "incidents" where I did not make it in time how embrassing was that.almost everything gives me gas and cramps, and eventually the diarrhea. Does anyone else ever had this problem? I am at wits ends in knowing how to make it stop, I eat alot of cheese but that only works for a day or two, than it is back to the way it was.I take all my vits that my dr told me to take and I try and eat as often as I can and I try and get in as much protein as I can for now, but that is rough and I am having some hair thinning still yet. so any suggestions will be of help.I feel like "yeah i'm losing cause i feel like all I do is s**t it all out. man tell me this will pass too. thanks for reading.

Hi

Sorry you are having this problem.  I haven't had anything like this happen.  Try not eating fruit and salad and try them in a month or so.  There will be some things you won't be able to eat anymore and those two things might be them.  Try cereal, fish and anything high in protein.  Eggs might be a good thing too.  Good luck!

I agree with the other poster as much as you like salad and fruit stop eating them for a while. It sounds like there is something in them that doesn't agree with you.  Eat more protein, fish, beef, pork, chicken, eggs, cheese. For your carbs do not eat salad veggies do more green beans and corn. For your fruit maybe do more bananas they tend to be more 'binding'.  Have you called your doc or nut?? Are you taking any other meds that might affect the GI track??
Good Luck,
Robin

Yes, as the others said, it is probably too soon for fruits and raw veggies.  Both are actually kind of hard to digest.  (I was not allowed raw veggies until 4-5 months out.)  Stick with the protein for a while and the problem will almost certainly clear up quickly.

Thanks everyone for the advice, Yeah I am gonna call my Dr and see if others have had the same problem. I know I need more protein, but I am burned out on fish for now and chicken and beef don't rest well with my tummy for now, so I am limited on what I can eat for now. But I am gonna make a call to see what they suggest too. Thanks again.

Even if beef and chicken are a problem, don't forget cheese, FF refried beans (or high protein beans prepared ANY way for that matter), eggs, yogurt, lean ham... and, of course, the dreaded protein supplements (there are some reasonably tasty protein bars if you cannot stomach the protein shakes).

Also, something that hasn't been mentioned yet is sugar alchohols.  Are you eating anything with artificial sweeteners?  Sugar alchohols are notorious for wreaking havoc on our digestive systems.  Other culprits can be lactose intolerance (can even include whey)  and simple carbs.  If you're eating any of these (along with fruit), cease them for a few days and see if you see any change.  If you notice an improvement, then add each item back one at a time and see what happens.  When you get a reaction again, then you know what to blame.

Otherwise, there might be some bacterial overgrowth going on that could be causing these symptoms.  This can be remedied by a round of antibiotics, but you want to try elimination first before that.

Hello Val, yes I do watch my achohols also, I think It might be to many carbs, a friend of mine said that if she eats anything with to many carbs she dumps also even 3 yrs out. So I guess I need to read my lables a little more closely. Thanks for the advice also.
