Water Soluble A&D?
Hi I'm Julie. I'm scheduled for DS on March 23, and I'm beginning to feel slightly overwhelmed. I see Kroger is having an awesome vitamin sale this week, and I'm going to go stock up, but where in the world do you ge****er soluble A&D and how can you tell it's water soluble?
Also anyone near by have Dr Rita Anderson @ Kettering? What should I expect (you know what they DON'T tell you in that class)?

Hi Julie, I had RNY with Dr Rita so I can't answer your questions about the vits you need. However, wanted to say hi cause I live in West Carrollton too!

I buy my Vitamin A & D from Vitacost.com. My favorite is manufactured by Twin Labs and vitacost.com has a $5 shipping regardless of the size of the order. I order as much as I can afford at the time to cut down on shipping.
You can also order it from many pharmacies, but don't be surprised if the pharmacist says they have never heard of water soluble A & D. You may need to tell them specifically that you want Twin Lab.

I'm a DS patient of Dr. Rita's. Water soluble vitamins are very hard to come by in these parts, especially in the dosage you really need. They aren't agressive enough for DSers on the fat-soluble vitamins, and I watched my D levels tank down to single digits. I get all of my dry vitamins (A, D and K) from vitalady.com. She's a distal RNY (has same malabsorption as we do) and she sells them cheaper than buying direct from the company. She's also extremely knowledgable and will answer any questions and help analyze labs too. She's just an invaluable resource to the DS community. She also has Calcium Citrate at half the cost of kroger.
From vitalady.com, you want to get:
Dry D - 50,000 iu (sounds scary at this level, but I'm up to 100k iu now still trying to get my # up - which is very common amongst DSers if not attacked sufficiently from the get-go)
Dry A - 10,000 iu (25000 iu if your A levels are low now)
Everything else you can get around town:
Centrum or equivalent
B12
Zinc
Calcium Citrate
You'll find better deals at Meijer. They almost always have buy one get one free on a regular basis. You can also get multis and others at Costco too.
Why don't you come over to the Duodenal Switch forum and introduce yourself. You'll find loads of support to answer all of your Ds questions.
