Anyone Have Plastic Surgery Yet?

I am now in the process of researching plastic surgeons and was wondering if anyone has any experience with any in the Dayton area.  I have looked at the Plastic Surgery forum & the list of surgeons, but thought I might get some additional information from you all.

I would feel most comfortable with a female surgeon, but obviously experience & talent is most important.

Also, did your insurance cover your surgery?

I've done a lot of research on plastic in Dayton and Cincinnati and here's what I've found.
1.  99.99999% of docs DO NOT TAKE INSUANCE even if your insuranc will cover it.  You will have to pay up front and then you get payment from insurance.
2. Here are some VERY good docs in Cincinnati that know how to work with WLS people and our skin since it is different.   Dr. Jennifer Butterfield, and Dr. Kurtis Martin.  I have heard both of them speak at WLS support meetings. There should be some in Dayton but I don't remember their names. You could ask your WLS doc for some referals and see what they say.

I had a panniculectomy, mons lift, and brachioplasty this year.  Normally, insurance will only cover a panniculectomy (and only if you meet their criteria for medical necessity).  Insurance paid for my panniculectomy but I paid out of pocket for the other two procedures.  As Robin pointed out, though, it is nearly impossible to find a PS in Dayton who will accept insurance.  (I got lucky... the surgeon who did my panniculectomy had just opened a new practice after teaching at a university (and presumably needed patients of any kind at the time)... but less than 2 months later he was no longer accepting insurance.)  It's all a matter of money.... the surgeons maintain that the surgery is cosmetic (even if the insurance company declares it medically necessary) because then they can get their full fee from the patient instead of having to take whatever the insurance company contracted amount is for the surgery (which is much lower).  The insurance company SAYS the surgeon is SUPPOSED to accept the insurance for it, but they cannot force them to (despite the fact that the surgeons have a contract with the insurance company).

I had Dr Martin in Cincinnati do my mons and arms (because I wanted someone who has a lot of experience with post-WLS patients), but he doesn't accept any kind of insurance, either.  I know people who have used -- and been pleased with the work of -- Drs Fox, Schmidt, Eslami, Simman, and Percy in Dayton.  Dr Butterfield in Cincy used to take insurance, but I don't know if she still does.
