I had lap band with Dr. Trace Curry 11/5/05 and it was 30 min in surgery and out.  I was home in 10 hours and walking 20 min a day the next day.  Recovery was just nothing with the lap band.  I lost 120 the 1 1/2 year and then my wt stopped moving.  I have 100+ to loose and I am thinking of a revision.  My insurance at the time of the lap band was Medicare primary Anthem PPO secondary.  Now they are switched (long story). But anyhoo I think you would like Dr. Curry but he does not do DS yet. I am going to see him Tuesday and I will ask him about DS and why he does not do it cause it I do a revision with DS I will have to find another surgeon.

I am going to see Dr. Curry Tuesday and talk to him about my options for revision cause my band is done with me and I with it.  I am interested in DS but Dr. Curry only doe the VSG right now.  Someone told me he does not like DS so I want to here his side cause I trust him and I feel he has my best interest at heart.

unless he has changed since spring '08 he will NOT do the DS.  he thinks its too much malabsorption and too dangerous (I'm not quoting so he can tell you how he feels for sure).

that said, I was originally going with dr. curry because that is who my PCM referred me to.  THEN he took his services completely out of network, ALL networks, so I had to switch or I'd be out $4K.

I had previously contacted Dr. Lisa Martin Hawver with UC surgeons and she graciously welcomed me back and I had a wonderful time with them.  very thourough and wonderful.

I have Tricare prime.  I had a painless 6 month diet and everything went through no problem.

Had Dr Sonnastine in Northern Ky. LOVE him and his staff and they are a Center of Excellence (important for insurance purposes). They are in Florence Ky just off I-75. My insurance is Anthem BCBS and they covered it with a BMI greater than 35 with co-morbidities. I did have to appeal once, but it was a formality I think. I think many insurances decline the first time just to see how serious you are and whether or not you will appeal. Surgery was a cake-walk, he requires a one-night stay just to make sure you are tolerating full iquids well before sending you home. I went back to work after only taking 3 days off.

When I had my lap band it was a breeze to.  Now I want a revision cause my wt loss is done with the band and I have 100+ to loose.
