Dr. Derrick Martin - leaving practice?
DH and I each received letters from Dr. Martin saying he is leaving practice for "financial reasons issues and due to utilization issues." He told us where our records would be stored (at some medical records storage facility).
What does that mean to us?
I am 4 years out and DH is 3 years out, but I always heard that it might be difficult to get someone else to take over our care if he ever left.
To top it off, I have been having some issues and am concerned about possibly hypoglycemia or something like that... my PCP has been off for medical leave for about 5 months and only her partners are available - so far they are blowing me off.
Anybody know what we should do - do we need to get our records from that storage place? Do we need to establish a relationship with some other gastric bypass surgeon, just in case we have future issues? Wah! I didn't expect to have to deal with this.

1.call Dr. Martins office and see if they are reffering to anyone
2. call the hospital that Dr. Martin did you WLS at and see what other docs they would refer you to.
3. I would get my medical records and not have them stored

I will be 3 years out this coming up February, and I am not sure what to do either...Hmmm am thinking...For now, maybe we should have our family doctors send for our records...This way we know for sure where they are until we decide what to do...Beings we are this far out, most likely the only thing Dr. Martin would have done for us if we were to see him for a follow up would be to weigh us, and send us for blood work up...So I figure our family doctors can do all that anyways...But yet, if we were to have complications that needed someone other than our family doctors, I would want to know that I had someone available to go to...So perhaps its a good idea to get someone set up now just incase...So, what do you think we should do? I am just as confused as you are...Tammy
