My first post
I had surgery on July 16, 2008 So I am almost three months out. It doesn't really feel like it has been that long. I was in the hospital for 1 month after surgery with an infection. I thought I was going to die. I was discouraged. Now I feel back to 100% health and mentally I am afraid that since I feel so good that the surgery is not going to work. In the hospital I could not eat (literally) and lost a pound or more a day now that I am eating again the weight loss has slowed consideraly and I feel like at any moment it will stop and I will be a surgery failure. Honestly I know I don't make the right food choices and though it is nothing like before the surgery I just feel like... I don't know. I was 380 on the day of surgery and I am 320 now I can see some changes and I am pleased with them but something in the back of my mind says it is too good to be true. Does anyone have thoughts or suggestions or similar feelings or stories. I would really appreciate it.
I haven't had the surgery so I don't have any surgery words of wisdom. (Although at current moment I'm still thinking Dr Trivedi will be my surgeon., so hopefully you have good things to say)
As a surgery outsider the only thing I can suggest is to pick up a copy of "The Secret". Sorry, don't mean to be a hypocrit, but I truly believe that if you think you're going to fail, you will. I love that book.. it's really helped me over the past 2 years. You have to be more positive :-) This time you won't fail, this time you will loose the weight and you'll keep it off too!
I don't think this surgery is a miracle worker, but instead it's a tool to help you loose weight. (Good tools aren't cheap :-)
There's a support meeting tomorrow night at 7 at Dr. Trivedi's office. There are some great folks there. You should swing by. 7-830 pm

I am seconding Tony's post. Are you going to support groups? I have read that a lot of long-term successes have continued going to them. I went for months prior to surgery, and plan on going forever if need be.
We are our own worst critic. Step back and see the good in the changes you have made. 60 lbs in a few months? I think that's pretty darn awesome!
Please join us tomorrow and if you do make sure and say hi!

I had my surgery almost 6 months ago. I have had feelings like being a failure too... I think it is pretty normal. As far as making the right food choices... don't beat yourself up, just get back on track!! You can do it. You made the decision to have WLS, now you have to use it to your advantage. They say you will lose the most wt in the first year, so try to do everything right now... you will be thankful later.
Good luck to you
