OT I just DON'T get it
OK last year for the Valentines Day Dance 8th grade (my mini me) Daughter was nominated for princess/queen SHE DIDN'T even tell me about it til after the dance because she didn't want to go. This year Homecoming is in just a few weeks and nominations were yesterday. WELL several of her friends heard that she was nominated. She AGAIN comes home ALL UPSET she wants to find out how to get out of it if she is in the Homecoming Court?????? I'm told MOM YOU JUST DON'T GET IT?!?!?!?!!?!? NO I DON'T
She's a cheerleader (has been since kindergarten) popular and out gonging, straight A's Honors classes.

It's wonderful that she was nominated and sounds like she has an awesome chance to be crowned homecoming queen. I may be way off base but I think I know what might be her issue. You have probably dealt with the same thing- fear that people will treat you differently. Sometimes HS students can be cruel and there can be a stigma that goes with being the Homecoming Queen (stuck up, thinks their better than everyone, etc..) Of course that's not true, but she may just be saying, "Mom I like who I am and enjoy my friends- I don't want people to start treating me differently". Perhaps you could help her to realize how fortunate she is and how she could use this experience to help others get to know her better and what she really stands for. Through her own actions and being humble she will probably make some new friends along the way and gain some additional fans. Good Luck! Tell her to seize the day!
