Thanks for the info Dianne... I will talk to him next time and not a nurse and he was a open book at the seminar and at my initial consultation this is what made me so comfortable with him. And the fact that he is trying to make Wood County A Center of Excellence tells me that he is committed to doing his very best in order to get the best results. I am on my 5th month of medically supervised wieghtloss out of a 6 month requirement... I keep asking the nurses if their is anyway that they could get some type of pre-approval from my insurance company, because I dont want to be doing all of these requirements and have my insurance deny my claim.

Yes, I would definitely call your insurance company and ask them directly.  Make sure you get your information from them in writing.  I've heard it's even better to email them, that way it's there in black and white.  I can say this as I speak from experience!!  I started all the pre op stuff in January, with Dr. Lane.  Then he left w/o telling anybody, well, me, in the middle of all of it.  I was not too happy about it.  When Dr. Lalor came here he calmed my nerves.  Well, I had been wanting all this time to get the sleeve gastrectomy.  I found out last week that my insurance, Aetna, doesn't cover it.  But they do cover the RNY, so that is what I'm waiting on right now.  Good Luck in your journey.  It'll be worth it when it's all said and done.  Are you from the Wood County area?  I live right here in Bowling Green and have most of my life.

Dianne,

I grew up in Detroit... Ive been livivng in Toledo for 3 years now attending the University of Toledo I graduate in December and I plan to attend grad school in Michigan at Eastern Michigan University . I have alot going on but I have wanted this surgery (RNY) for so long. I am almost through the process with my insurance, but I wish someone would have told me certain things ahead of time. Since I planned on moving back to Michigan, my insurance will end if I do, and all of this would be for nothing. I didn't really want to post-pone grad school so I guess I have to stay in Toledo and commute so that I can keep my insurance (Buckeye Medicaid). I dont want to have to start this process over again with another doctor in Michigan, but I really think that  with the way things have been playing out lately  I may have to not continue on. I am saddened that insurance companies play the games that they play. Here it is Ive been dieting all my life and I have to show them that I can diet some more...not just 3 months but for 6 whole months and 7 dietisan visits that won't end until January. I know January is right around the corner but I have so much coming up with grad school and possibly a new job thats been lined up.

Thanks for the luck cause I'm going to need it.
