Wood County Hospital Center For Weight Loss
I had my Duodenal Switch at Wood County Hospital in May. That was before Dr. Lane moved to University of Toledo Medical Center.
I can tell you that I was mostly happy with the staff there. Cathy in pre-op was amazing! Most of the nursing staff were attentive and helpful. But, nights and weekends there were the pits. I found I waited longer for my pain meds and the nurses were less expirienced. One night I even had to pull my buzzer out of the wall to get a response.
I can tell you this though. If I had the choice between Dr. Lalor at WCH and Dr. Lane 30 minutes north at University of Toledo, I'd go with Dr. Lane.
Some questions you may want to ask Dr. Lalor are:
- How long have you been licenced to practice medicine?
- How many RNY surgeries have you done?
- What expirience, if any, do you have working with high risk patients?
Hope that helps and if you have more questions about my expirience there, just let me know.

BRB...I am in Toledo so Toledo Hospital is ten minutes away. But Dr. Lalor seems to have a good track record. he is trying to get Wood County hospital qualified to become a Center of excellence. I guess if I were to switch at this moment I would wonder how that would affect me, I am on my 4th month of 6 months of supervised weight loss and I definitely don't want to start over at all. I did have my consultation with Dr. Lalor and he seemed very nice. His staff on the other hand seems to be rookies... They have not been as proactive a should be about making sure they have the blood work and labs that I have done. I have had to do a lot of calling to the lab where test were performed to get communication going and now I am like what exactly is the staff there for, after all I did sign a release and told them where I would be getting my labs done. If I switch how would this affect me...I am tired of waiting and I dont want to start over.
Regarding your 6 month diet, it is best to keep that with a single doctor. Is Dr. Lalor supervising your diet? Either way, you should be able to speak with another surgeon regarding options.
What track record have you heard about Dr. Lalor? I'm really interested because my understanding is that he has only been a licenced doctor for a few years (2 or 3) and has done less than 100 weight loss surgeries.

Ive heard and read that he has 24 to 25 years experience as a General Surgeon and "working in bariatrics", But he is the medical director at Bowling Green. So how does one become a medical director if they have not had the experience. I dont see alot about him on the web then again he is performin surgery in Bowling Green...LOL... But where did you get your info from maybe I should start digging a little more or pick some more brains.
Brb... I did just check this site and he has had 6 years experience as of 2007 in bariatric surgery and he did just finish a fellowship in 2001, but do you think 4 years of training plus 6 more additional years of hands on experience would be enough. And also it looks like he was RN or surgical nurse before becoming a doctor.
At my next appointment I will be asking more questions..

I agree with brb. The turnover rate for the nurses at Wood Co is very, very high. DH was switched 3 months after me and he had almost an entirely new staff. The problem is most of them are new grads with very little experience.
Have you called Dr Lane? I would follow him into ANY facility. He did my DS, my husbands DS and last year I went to him for what I thought was a bowel obstruction. He did emergency surgery and it turned out to be a tumor which had ruptured the wall of the colon. Because of his expertise and experience, he knew what to do. Even my current oncologist at University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center is impressed with Dr Lane. He very literally saved my life! PM me if you would like his new phone number.
Good Luck

Hi there,
I have not had any personal experience with Dr. Lane. I did go to one of the informational seminars and didn't really care for the program. I can't tell you why specifically, I sorta felt like I was been herded thru a process.
If you are looking for someone in northwest ohio, may I suggest Dr. Patrick White. He does the RNY at The Toledo Hospital. His staff is wonderful and supportive. I also liked being at a bigger facility, just in case anything went wrong. Wood county is a very small hospital.
Hope this helps
Good luck to you

I have had two babies at WC hospital and another surgery. I am going to have the RNY there with Dr. Lalor. I do realize he is young, middle 30's, but he is very qualified. He is an open book and tells you this in his seminars. If you have a question you can phone him directly and speak to him, not a nurse. I've heard the nurses on the floor are good and bad. I have also said something to Dr. Lalor regarding this. He is trying to make the hospital a Center for Excellence, nursing staff is definitely a part of it. If you have any questions/problems he is more than willing to tackel them, just my personal experience with him.
