New to Ohio (Columbus), any suggestions for a support group?

Just moved to Columbus, Ohio and would like to find a support group for Lap Bandsters...any assistance would be appreciated! Thank you!

Hello - welcome to Columbus!  I just had my RNY last Tuesday.  I am doing the program at Riverside Hospital called fresh start bariatrics - freshstartbariatrics.com is their website.  A Lap Band friend goes to the support goup meetings and I believe she said they are on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:30.  I would call ahead though to be sure. They meet at the McConnell Heart Health Center, which is easy to find and get to and park at, unlike the big hospital! If you need to know anything more about the area, please feel free to ask - I've lived here most of my life. :)  Stacy

Hi!  Welcome to Columbus!  I had my lap band done in Cincinnati but I heard that Mt. Carmel also has a support group, but it is for everyone, both lapbanders and rny's.  I believe they have a meeting tonight.

I answered under your other post on the Lapband forum but I'll add it here too. We have an informal Columbus Lapband group that meets at Polaris Mall once a month and its this Saturday 2-4 pm at the food court. There are alot of us from different hospital lapband surgeons and we've really enjoyed meeting in person. 

Specialk2:  Can anyone, even an RNY, come to your group?  I'm in need of a good support group that meets on a regular basis and the one at Barix is too far away for me.  I'm from the Marion area and haven't had any success in finding one except the one in Delaware and for the last two months has only been me and the lady that heads it.  I promise I will be good~~~  LOL!! The mall group is just lap banders but I know my hospital I went to has an open meeting of both RNY and lapbanders at Mt. Carmel West Hospital on the 1st Monday of the month. The next one is June 7 I believe.  Its at 6:30pm in the Medical Staff Bldg. which is just to the left (south) of the E.R. entrance. Park in the attached garage and its easy. Its a big group - maybe 100+ attending monthly and they have guest speakers come in as well as people share their stories. Good luck.

My husband and I have been attending a great support group meeting at Barix Clinic.  Its for WLS patients of all kinds not just for lap banders.  It meets the 3rd Sat of every month at 9 am. I highly recommend it.  Of course I also recommend attending as many as you can and decide on one that's a right fit for you and your needs.
