LAPBAND SURGEY
I have read some surgeons feel very strongly about pre-op diet and if you show up on surgery day weighing more than you did on your pre-op physical, they will cancel your surgery and not even start. Hearing that was enough to keep me on the straight and narrow pre-op diet.
I haven't heard too many cases of them starting and finding the liver too big to do laproscopic and just ending the procedure rather than converting to open incision.
Also it depends on the skill and expeirence level of the surgeon.
I had laproscopic gallbladder surgery done in October before having laproscopic lapband done this March and the gallbladder surgeon made me sign a consent form for laproscopic gallbladder with possible open incision.
I know they do lapband surgery with open incision as well as laproscopic so maybe you can ask about the surgery consent form indicating "laproscopic gastric banding surgery with possible open incision" as what you are signing for if you will agree to that. Bottom line, talk to your doctor.
I am shocked that you did so well on pre-op diet and they still didn't successfully do the surgery. I hate to say it but something doesn't sound right. I'd be leery of going back without getting a second surgeon to request and review the record of what happened with that first surgery and confirm or give you a 2nd opinion about what to do.
