Weight Gain on Lyrica!
YES YES YES!!!
Lyrica was great for my fibr pain... I was on it for two months... (150mg morning and night) and gained a little over 20 pounds!!!! I told my family doctor I will try to deal with the pain another way... I neverfelt full while on lyrica... but boy o boy -- my neck/back/shoulder, etc pain was cut by half! I feel like I am damned if I do - damned if I don't!!!
My family doctor now has me coming in for pressure point shots... as many as I need to help the pain. no steroids... just novicain.. so far the shot has helped for a little over a week... ready for a few more this coming week.
That's what concerns me...I babysit my infant grandson full-time and since I've been on Lyrica, it's so much easier with the almost total absence of pain. We all know we aren't supposed to take Advil, Aleve or aspirin for this pain. Truthfully, those don't help much with FMS anyway. I totally understand what you mean-damned if you do and damned if you don't. If I stop taking it, my shoulder pain will return. I'm also on Cymbalta which is also advertised as helping w/o the weight gain. It was so discouraging to get on the scale each day and see that I'd gained at least .5 a pound! I think more research needs to be done on this stuff! Thanks for your opinion!
Hello - I just had my RNY last Tuesday (4/29), but I started taking Lyrica last October ( I think!) for ongoing back trouble. It has helped tremendously with that pain, but I did gain about 30lbs after I started taking it. I'm still taking it, 75 mg twice a day, and plan to continue until my neurologist and I feel I've lost enough weight to start weaning off of it. I guess I have mixed feelings about it - yes, of course I want to lose as much weight as possible, but my main reason for having the RNY is to help reduce the pain in my back, and right now, Lyrica is doing a pretty good job of that. I am anxious to see how it all works out. I guess my advice would be to talk to your Lyrica-prescribing doc and your WLS surgeon and see what they recommend. They may have some additional insight into what may be a better regimen for you. Good Luck!
