I have been hearing from people that have had the wls and they have after a few years gained there weight back and I keep telling myself its because they thought it was an easy way out and they made themselfs eat too much, and didnt try to follow a plan. Basically that they were not diciplined enough . I myself have not had the surgery yet but I know this is not and easy way out and know that you still have to work on your weight loss for the rest of my life. My aunt had the wls about 8 years ago and I remember her forcing herself to eat things she shouldnt have and she is slowly putting her weight back on.

I'm over 4 years out so here's my story in a nut shell.  I got down to my goal weight and within what the charts say my BMI should be. BUT it was to low for me and both my PCP and WLS doc yelled at me for losing to much and that I should try to gain a little bit. Well I stopped working out and let a few to many bad foods back in.  Over the past 2 years I have gained 20 pounds. I have lost a little of that and I would really like to lose about 10 more.   BUT I'm still a WLS SUCCESS. I have lost and KEPT OFF over 80% of my excess weight.   Yes you have to make LIFE LONG CHANGES. and if you don't the weight will come back.  I have two very busy teens and we are always on the go. I have to learn how to make SMART choices at McDonalds and such. Fast off is part of the American life style. You just have to make the smart choices nad not SUPER SIZE it. Keep asking those questions and researching and you'll fing the right WLS for you.  Good Luck,  Robin

That is great I am so glad that you are doing well and its nice to hear that you are 4 years out and still doing well. Everyone keeps saying oh that surgery isnt worth it but they let themselfs go back and they in my words thought it was an easy way out and nothing is easy and I know that and I am doing this to change my life for the better so I am def. going to change my diet, and exercise will hopefully be easier when I am not as heavy to execise, and I will actually feel full I dont think I have ever truley felt full well at least for a really long time! Thank you so much for your knowledge and I hope I can do as well as you. People like you let me see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Barbi,  Daughter #3had an open RNY 6 yrs. ago.  She weighed 260 lbs. before surgery, she was also 23 yrs. old.  She is down to about 120 now.  She has gotten as low as 113 but was skin and bones.  She now works at a health club and has been working out and looks great.  She even has a butt now, after she lost all the weight she lost her butt and was nothing but saggy skin.  She also had a beautiful little girl about 3 yrs. ago.  I thought most of her saggy skin came after she had the baby, but she has had that panni operation (sorry can't think of the name of the operation) and her Molina insurance paid for it (didn't you say you had Molina?) She is lactose intolerant and can't handle mayo now.  She has had a few problems but nothing major.

I'm halfway through my third year after my duodenal switch.  I easily lost all of my weight in 14 months, and have maintained it effortlessly for well over a year now.  I never once felt as if I was deprived of anything either.
