Has anyone used portion control plates, bowls, and drinking glasses? If you have, where did you purchase them and were they of any help? Nancy J.

I did not purchase anything special other than baby spoons to use right after surgery to be sure I didn't take too big a bite of the soft foods, but I now routinely just use the salad plates from my diinnerware set rather than the large dinner plates and use the small cups for any liquid that has any calories (because that way I know exactly how many ounces I am drinking instead of guessing).  For water I use normal glasses.  I rarely eat anything requiring a bowl these days but when I do have some soup I use the cups rather than a bowl. I use a scale and measuring cups for my food portions and only eat off a salad plate. I bought baby spoons also and still use them when I am having trouble with taking bites that are too big.

Nancy,

I've used lunch plates for a long time (but have to admit that I sometimes loaded them high in the past!).  Post op, I'm using drinking glasses that are actually one cup in size and baby spoons and I also bought 1/2 C and 1 C storage containers so I can put leftovers in the size they belong in (generally the 1/2 C unless I want to be able to stir vigorously).

Beth, I love the "hope chest" idea!

I to like the idea!!! If all goes well with me, and I lose weight my best friend and another one of my friends will be checking into the surgery! I am 99% sure my best frined will have it. I am trying to keep good records and print vauble info to give to her in a book. She is unable to go through my jounral with me, due to a rough pregency. However she is a single mom, of almost two!! I will be her support!! I was her support person with her first son, and I plan to be there holding her hand in this c section and her WLS, if she so choses.   I sometimes, well most of the time, feel all alone. I have so many questions!! This site is nice, but it having a friend there with personal history and alot of helpful info would be great!!  So I too am always looking for good info, for me adn her!!

Hello. I bought sectioned plates from the baby section at walmart. Price around $1.29 each they have lids with them. I just make around 8 meals up at a time for work. No fuss no muss. Just use measuring cups and scales to get the correct amount. No chance of over doing @ eating time.Hope this was helpfull for you. Good luck!!!!  Ramona W

Romana,  Thank you for the hint.  I'm measuring my food but being able to put in one of those baby plates for storage would be a great help.  One, because so many time I can't finish my meal and two, I would be able to set things up in the morning and just get it out.  Are they microwavable? I'm trying had to guess right about measurements because when I'm eating out and still find that my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Eating with a baby spoon would have saved me pain from eating too fast and too much at one time.  Thanks everyone. Nancy J.
