researching Dr. Mikami

Hi I am new to this forum and am thankful to find a site specific to Ohio folks and weight loss surgery. I  am scheduled on the 24th of March to see Dr. Mikami for my  first consultation with him regarding lap band surgery. I got ins. approval Feb. 21st for the surgery. I am so excited because this process with Ohio State has taken me a year. I was originally scheduled to see Dr. Needleman, but because of scheduling issues Dr. Mikami's office could get me in sooner and I am just wondering if anyone has experience with Dr. Mikami? I guess I am just looking for reassurance in changing physicians in this final stage. The only thing I know about Dr. Mikami is that he has been practicing at Ohio State since 2003. If any one has comments about him  amd their surgery experiences, I would love to hear them. Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Stacey,  If you want to find out about Dr. Mikami, there are plenty of testimonials here on the OH website.  Just hit his name and they will come up (I think).  I, too, went to OSU.  Started my process over 18 months ago.  Last August I changed doctors.  Dr. Mikami was my Dr. and I had a consult with him about lap band surgery.  and, he talked me out of it.  He said the lap band surgery had been out long enough. (Not enough medical statistics on the out come of the surgery)  The only reason he perform lap band is because the patient wants him to.  I said, OK, and decided to go with RNY.  As the time passed I kept thinking and thinking about the RNY and started thinking about special meals and vitamin malabsorbtion.   Actually, the surgery I really wanted was the VSG and I read where Dr. Curry from Cincinnati was performing it.  So I signed up for an initial consultant with him and found out that insurance doesn't cover VSG so I'm back with LapBand surgery and scheduled with Dr. Curry April 15th.  Dr. Curry is the #1 LapBand Dr. in Ohio. i guess what I'm getting at is this.  I really liked Dr. Mikami's demeanor and everything and I'm sure he is a very good doctor, but I wanted a doctor who supports and believes in the surgery he performs not do it because the patient wants it.   Good luck with your surgery.  Peggy
