Dr Curry in Cinti has a beautiful reputation.  My sister inlaw goes to him for her fills and she loves him!  Never heard of Sonnastine.  Oh yeah ..another plus.. Dr C is here for us lots of the time!

Hi there, Dr. Curry performed my RNY April 2006.  I don't know anything about Dr. Sonnastine, but I can say without a doubt  Dr. Curry has the best bedside manner than any Dr. or specialist i have EVER seen (and believe me I've seen alot LOL).  Whenever anyone asks me I tell them to check with him first.  I had gallbladder problems after my RNY & the man checked on me (after I was home) almost every day.   My husband and i absolutely love him.  He is VERY accessible - you won't feel abandoned like with some Drs. Dr. Curry held my hand through the whole thing and never made me feel like I was wasting his time or he had more important things to do.  I have had alot of medical problems in the past and have seen alot of physicians in my day.  The man makes you feel like a family member.  It's really hard to remember sometimes that he's a surgeon.  Don't get me wrong he is very professional but balances it well with warmth.  I tell everyone though, meet with all of your choices and pick the Dr. that you're most comfortable with.  This is a VERY serious & emotion surgery to go through.  Not only is the Dr. important but the hospital, surgery staff & office staff as well. Good luck! Beth

Hi Charlie, really long time..I just saw your post on the Ky board..I do remember you from long time ago. I think you and your wife are doing the right thing, check out options...study..listen and learn.  I know Dr. Sonnanstine and Dr. Curry, they are probably the two most popular docs in the area.(especially for gastric banding these days.) I believe they are both using the new realize band..I know Dr. Sonnanstine is a proctor and if I am correct I believe the same with Dr. Curry..What that means is they are both instructing other surgeons for Ethicon on how to place the band..Again I don't know as much about Dr. Curry but Dr. Sonnanstine has traveled frequently since the first of the year to do this..  I know the program at St. Luke, it's a good pre-op and post -op program..Taryn ( the clinical coordinator) is working on making some changes to the support group which is going to be really good... Both surgeons are good technically, that of course is really important but I also believe post op follow up care and support is essential to any good program. Unfortunately can't help you with the new program Dr. Curry is running as I have never been there or really had much contact with the doc since it opened.  I also know both docs are very accessible to their patients via email..etc. maybe someone can give you more information about Dr Curry's newest program...I do know he has a website so go check out the surgeons page and see what their websites say..I am sure you can get more information there.   If I can help with more, just send me an email [email protected] Thanks Brenda

HI there! I saw this post and wanted to chim in.  My sister in law saw Dr. Curry and LOVES him.  I had lap band with Dr. Sonnanstine in November 2006.  I LOVE HIM!!  He is very easy to talk to.  He has become like a friend to me now.  I can email him a question or share a victory and he responds within an hour.  He does his own fills...I think that is mainly because he is possessive of his patients and doesn't want anyone else messing with his work.  :) Dr. Curry's nurse practicioner does alot of his fills...that isn't a "bad" thing.  I am just pointing out a difference that I am aware of.  Dr. Curry comes on to the message boards and will answer posts..I think that is pretty cool.  The thing you have to keep in mind is that most patients think their doctor is the BEST.  It is very difficult to get  a true "feeling" based on asking patients their opinion.  My advice, RESEARCH, RESEARCH RESEARCH.  Dr. Sonnanstine has a seminar the first Thursday of the month.  Go and see what he has to say.  I am sure that Dr. Curry does something similar, call his office and go see what he has to say.  Then...follow your heart! Good luck.  This is a very personal decision...and really YOUR decision.

Knowledge is Power!  I now have the knowledge and power to change.

I can't say anything bad about the other fella, But Dr.. Curry did my surgery. Hands down I have never had a Doc. as easy to aks questions and who seems toactually care about his patients. I have to give him a 10. Goo luck either way. It isin't easy but definately worth it.
