I had to laugh when I read this post!!!!   About a year ago I was scheduled to have my lap-band surgery.  I had just completed my 6 month medically supervised diet as required by my insurance and scheduled my surgery date.  At that time my first son was about 18 months old.  We had a difficult time getting pregnant with him, so it was quite a shock when I found out I was pregnant again!!!  Anyway... my baby is now 12 weeks old and I am almost 3 weeks post-op!  I made sure I had this surgery done before I returned to work.  Anyway, here I am with a 2 year old and a 3 month old and I'm feeling FANTASTIC!  I had my surgery on a Monday and by that Wednesday I was taking care of my kids almost like normal.  I tried not to lift my 2 year old as much, but I'd have to remind myself not to lift him because there was hardly any pain.  I worried I would be weak and irritable from not being able to eat, but it's not been a problem at all.  Truly, this is a simple process.  You may need some help for 1-2 days post op and then you'll be back to normal.    Also, I believe that getting pregnant happened for a reason.  If I had the surgery any sooner I would not have received the new and improved advanced platform band!  Everything happens for a reason... don't give up!

I had the RYN Y in June and my son (4) took it very well. I came home with the drain in which I think helped him realize what had happened. He wanted to help mommy when I got home and he did just that.  When I dropped him off at his God Parents house he looked up at his Uncle and said " Uncle MEME! My mommy is going to have her tummy cut out isn't that cool :)" My brother in law  did not know what to say :).  Now he tells me what I can eat and can not eat. If I over eat and end up throwing up he says " now mommy you know your not suppose to eat that." He likes helping mommy out.  I think it has been a learning advantage for him as well. He has learned what foods are good for him and what foods are junk food. He wants to take part in preparing the meals and constantly tells me NO OIL or  NO SUGAR  MOM!  He is truely my angel.  Kids like it when they take part in the whole event with you. Include you children and try to explain to them what you are going to need from them when you get home.

Hi! I am Jamie, I had the sleeve done on Dec 3 and I was really worried about it because i had a daughter who just turned 3 just days before. She was not young enough needing to be held and carried everywhere, but she still small enough to want to climb in my lap, and help with a lot of things. Our mothers were a great help they kept her while I was in the hospital and kept her the following day I got out and then my husband was home for the weekend so I wasn't alone with her till 7 days after the surgery and it was fine. I had a lot of help unfortuantly I ended up with pnemonia, and so I was really sore for a few days there but I didn't have any trouble really. She was really concerned with mommys owies on her belly and she still will look your owies are all better now!    I was surprised at how well it went and how well she did! It was totally worth it, ya it was  alittle pain to do it and go threw it with her so small but now I have so much more energy to do the things I want to with her!! Good luck!!! Jamie
