New - Nervous- In Toledo/scheduled for WLS
Phew.. tried to get my whole post in that title!
I'm new to this site/board..and hoping to hear from others in my area. I'm scheduled to have RNY in Cleveland (st. v's) on 2/26/2008. All is approved and ready to go.
But as my title says, I'm in Toledo. I'm a little worried because the support groups for St V's are obviously 2 hours away..and I'm afraid I won't be attending many if any at all....
So my question is.. Does any one know of support groups in the Toledo Area? I just have a feeling that after the surgery, my support system is going to be critical.

Hi there - I am from Toledo and my surgeon is Dr. White who is also in Toledo. Can I ask why you are going all the way to Cleveland for RNY when Dr. White does RNY in Toledo? He is an excellent surgeon and considered to be on the the best and most respected surgeons around. He has a support group once a month. The first Wednesday of every month. The support groups are free to us and I know others have brought in friends of theirs who have had the surgery so it is likely that they would not mind you attending. You can give a call. Ask to speak with Cathy. 419-885-2525. Best of luck!! ~ Terisa
i had rny surgery at st v with doc ben meir on 11/26/07. dr ben meir is amazing,so good choice. i don't know about toledo doc's but i'm sure that they fantastic, but st v's is known for this surgery and has been doing them the longest (in the area) it is great that we have all these choices.
good luck to you on all of this. do check out the rny boards, it is VERY imformative.
I love love love Dr. White....I just had my rny 1/16 and he has got to be the most kind, caring and understanding doc I have ever met. The whole staff there has gone out of their way to make sure that I have what I need and make sure that all is well. The support group right here in toledo will be good.
80 lbs lost lots more to go....
Thank you for all that posted.. Sorry for such a delayed response on my part.. time got away from me.
The I chose St V's in Cleveland for a couple of reasons. When I first started investigating WLS, St. Vincents Charity was the nearest hospital in Ohio listed as a "Center of Excellence", Dr Ben-Meir has over 1400 Lap RNY's under his belt.. and of course because my insurance company (BlueCross/Blue Shield) covers him.
But the truly deciding factor for me was Dr Ben-Meir's bedside manner.. He blew me away at our meetings. He is just the perfect combination of Confidence, kindness and professionalism. And I just decided to stick with him.
My surgery is now scheduled for the end of this month... 2/26.
I'll be looking into those meetings mentioned at Toledo Hospital.. I really!! appreciate the info on that!!!!
Thanks again all!
