Has anyone had problems with their incisions healing?

I had my lap band put in on December 26.  I have two incisions that are not healing properly.  One of them is where the port is located underneath; therefore my surgeon told me that if it is not healed by Feb. 19, she will not be able to do my first fill.   I'm very upset about all of this because I was on a prescription for infection for 1 week and this week I am on a antibiodic.  I just want this to be over with already.  I have been very careful in what I am doing and before the incisions started leaking, I left them uncovered so that the air could get to them.   Has anyone had any problems with their incisions healing?  If so, was there anything you could do to help speed up the healing process? Thanks, Marie

Hello Marie

I had Lap/Rny on the same day you had your lapband. I have one incision that a dissolvable stitch did not dissolve and has to come through the skin.  There is a boil like thing going on as my body tries to rid itself of the stitch, or sootcher. I have to hold hot compresses on it 4 times a day and keep it covered till it is done draining.  It seems to be just about done.

I had open RNY, so this may not help you, but I had several places along my incision that opened up and oozed blood and pus-like stuff for almost 10 weeks.  I took antibiotics for 2 weeks, and then my PCP did a culture because he was concerned, but it came back negative.  The surgeon said I would just have to wait for them to heal up on their own... Marie,

I'm sorry you are running into that.  What a drag.  I think some people just heal more slowly than others.  Do what you can.  Were I you, I'd still keep the appt for the fill so they can look and see what they can do about helping heal it. Janice

I had RNY one of the lap incisions was very red and got worse 2-3 days later and I went to the surgeon who cut it open about 2 inches long and 1/2 inch deep then I had to pack it with guaze for about 2 weeks so it could heal from the inside out.  Also took antibiotics.  I am a nurse and have seen many problems with other types of surgical wounds not healing and opening them and packing seems to work well.
