Anyone from Central Ohio here?
Hi tjcherry,
I'm actually from Pickerington. I had my lap band surgery on Dec. 26, 2007. I am a patient wth the bariatric group out of Mount Carmel-West.
They do offer a support group the first Monday of every month (with the exception of holidays that fall on that Monday). They are held from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Medical Staff Building (MSB) Auditorium at Mount Carmel-West. The Medical Staff Building is located on the left side of the ER. Just in case you haven't been out to Mount Carmel West.
Where do you stand with the Lap Band process?
Hope this helps!
Marie
Pickerington and all central Ohio OH friends - a group of us lapband and wanna-be lapbanders in the process of getting insurance approval and scheduling - met at the Polaris Mall yesterday at 2-4 pm in front of the Great Indoors at the food court area and we had a blast talking and visiting with other real-live people going through our same situation. There were about 12 women and 1 man who brought his wife and infant son with him also. The people that came represented numerous surgery centers (MtCarmel, OSU, Riverside, Barix, Cincinnati-Curry, Detroit) we could compare that we are experiencing from the different ones, costs, diet, etc. Some of the ladies even took time at the end to swap clothes with others who are getting to the sizes they no longer needed.
I can't tell you what a nice bunch of people this was. Not intimidating at all to sit and visit with them in a public place, you could come when you wanted, leave when you wanted, bring a spouse or friend with you if you were afraid of meeting strangers' for the first time, etc.
We decided to do this again next month on March 8 at 2pm at Polaris Mall in Columbus, food court at the area where there is an entrance off the parking lot, just in front of Great Indoors. We put up a balloon to mark where we are and you just have to look for the bunch of people laughing and talking together!
Hope to see more lapbanders and those investigating lapband surgery there.
Hello. I'm new to this site/forum. I'm from Gahanna, OH. I have been to 2 support meetings at Mt. Carmel West. First Mondays of the month, except holidays. I plan to start attending regularly. I had my surgery on 11/9/2007 and weighed in at 310 lbs. I'm now 259.8 lbs. Its wonderful! I'm going to take a flight this weekend,a nd I'm not scared of the seats this time. How good is that? I won't need an extender for once. TJCherry, you are not alone in the metro-columbus area. There are a lot of us here with you. Keep posting!
Gahanna--Congrats on your wonderful weight loss. How did you like Dr. Miller? I'm going to Dr. Price in the same group with Dr. Choban, Dr. Miller at Mt. Carmel. I'm waiting on my insurance approval now. They have had the paperwork since Jan 31st so I'm going to start calling every few days and pester them until I get an answer. Did you have Lapband or RNY?
Keep up the good work.
I'm from the Dayton area. I'm not sure where exactly you live, but I know in Dayton my surgeon's office has a support group meeting that meets once a month. Everyone is welcome, not just their patients. There are people in the group who have just moved here or because they need a group and it's convenient for them. Here's a link to our meeting info including dates, times and locations just in case you do live close enough to be able to attend one.

I'm from the Westerville/Galena area and also working to get lapband surgery with the Mt. Carmel West group, specifically Dr. Price. My insurance paperwork is submitted to Aetna now after doing all the clearances and things that the surgeon's office said Aetna would require. I'm more active on the www.lapbandtalk.com website if any of you want to check that out. There is an Ohio group on that web site under the USA local forum groups and then within the Ohio one, there is various discussion thread of groups in Central Ohio doing the Riverside, Mt. Carmel, OSU, and Barix options for lapband.
Nice to see other Mt. Carmel folks posting on here.
