Does anyone currently have Cigna??  My employer has just decided to change from medical mutual as of 1/1/08 just as I was ready to submit to the ins (just my luck). I hear they are harder to deal with than med mutual.......any suggestions anyone????

Cigna covered my surgery after appeal. I would recommend that you really stay on top of them. They tend to "lose" things or say they never received them, give you incorrect information...etc. Just be very proactive and be sure that you have fulfilled ALL of your requirements before submitting to them. For some insurance companies you can resubmit if you miss something, but with Cigna it goes right into appeal so be sure to get it right the first time. Good luck and I wish you the best! ~ Terisa

Thank you so much !! I 've heard many different things about cigna. I'm lucky to be working with a hospital that will not submit anything unless all the requirements have been met by both them and the ins. company Thanks again

You're very welcome. One more thing I would suggest is that once your paperwork is submitted give it a week. Then call to confirm they received it. Then call once a week for two weeks and then daily. Each time you call get the call number and the name of the person you spoke with. At the time when I was doing this the reps did not have access to the system where pre-authorizations for WLS was given so you may need to request to speak to someone who has access to that system. At that time it was called the Medicom account. It was only a little over a year ago, but it still could have changed. Just thought I would pass the info along.

Thank you for responding..I see Ben-Meir did your surgery too. If you don't mind me asking did you have any comorblilties??? I only have asthma. But I'm 5'6 at 294 lbs. my health is surely gonna go to the dogs if I don't have the surgery. I'm completing the 6mo. diet on the 25th but I've managed to gain 10lbs since I've started. I don't know what else to do and with the weight gain I'm scared i'll be denied. Any suggestions???????????

Hi there, I had asthma, arthritis and sleep apnea. I am now down 145 pounds and have nothing I have just mentioned. This surgery saved my life! I didnt lose any weight with the 6 month diet, and was worried too. It didnt seem to have any effect on the approval though. All the waiting and tests seemed to go on and on and on... but they take good care of us. Ask me anything. Dr. Ben-Meir is the best, you couldnt be in better hands! Michelle
