Wow! I'm so excited.
Let me start at the beginning... I have been considering surgery for well over a year. I have been researching it since this past summer. I made a decision to have Lap-Band in August, and went through two seminars, all of the required doc visits, etc. On the day before Thanksgiving, my insurance was approved. --Had some abnormal kidney results, and went through probably a month of blood and urine tests, and finally had a kidney biopsy. The kidney specialist said that it was relatively no big deal and that since losing weight would help the kidneys function better, he was giving the "green light" on surgery. So, on the same day as the biopsy, I met the surgeon for my last appointment. He and his nurse both mentioned the Vertical Gastric Sleeve, which I had never heard of before. At that appointment, we set a date for 12/13 (it would've been today) for Lap-Band. Then, I started thinking. I changed my mind and told the surgeon's office to resubmit the information for approval for the sleeve. THEN, I decided that the recovery time for the sleeve was too long for me to be out of work, the invasiveness, rarity, and irreversability of the surgery started to concern me. I decided conclusively to go with the band last Friday. It took til yesterday (Wednesday) to get a surgery date, and I was going out of my mind.
As I started by saying, I am so excited. This Friday I go to the hospital for pre-surgery testing. Monday 12/17 is SURGERY DAY!!!
My goal is to be 140 by my 40th birthday on 9/24. I know this is a lofty goal. I figure if I "shoot for the moon, if I fall, I'll land among the stars." Has anyone out there lost 100 # in 9 months?
Thanks for listening, and for your comments. Have a wonderful and blessed day, ~maria
PS I uploaded pictures. Why don't they show?
Hi Maria - I've having surgery on Monday, too! We'll have the same suriversary! God give you peace and confidence as you face surgery. A song we sing at church is "...got dreams? Turn them into plans! Too big for human hands..." Meaning: Nothing is too big for God's hands - I think your goals are attainable. God Bless, Lori
I just had my surgery on the 28th but I"ve lost about 30 pounds so far. A friend of mine had surgery in June of 2005 and she lost 100 in 9 months and she has been maintaining ever since! So it is possible but everyone is different so there are no guarantees. The ultimate goal is to be healthier so with every pound you lose...you're one step closer to your ultimate health goal!
Best of luck to you and have a Very Merry Christmas!!
