New Here....excited and nervous

Hello,  I just got my date the other day. November 7th I will be having lap RNY by Dr. Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic. Anyone else have there surgery with him? I'm getting reallly excited. But nervous too, i feel like I'm not going to know what to do afterwards.

Hello, and welcome. My aunt had her WLS at cleveland clinic, I'm not sure with what surgeon but I can tell you she was very pleased with the aftercare on the floor. Good luck in your upcoming surgey and beyond

Congratulations on your date.  I am down south in Dayton but through other experiences the Cleveland Clinc is a wonderful place and I am sure you will have a great doctor to do your surgery. I am getting nervous myself, my lapband is Monday.  Let me know how you are doing.  I have several friend who have had the surgery you are doing and many of them got to there goal weight within a year.   If the clinc is like my doctor you will have a dietician on staff and they will sit down with you and design a diet that will suit your lifestyle.  If they do not have one, ask if they know of any specializing in wls.  It is really worth doing it because you will know what to do right after surgery and in the weeks ahead.

yeah, i  have Cleveland Clinic Employee insurance (my husband works there). They submitted and approved it within a week and a half. I'm very fortunate that way. The whole process from when I had my consult with the surgeon, though nutrition, psych, labs, chest xray, ekg, ultrasound, and submitting to insurance to getting my date took about 1 month. It was very fast and I'm very lucky. The longest part was the two months i had to wait to get into the consult.  I feel very comfortable with the clinic's program and Dr. Schauer. I'm think im freaking out now because i feel like i'm going to have no idea what to eat/drink after the surgery. I'm trying to plan ahead and plan it out but i feel so overwhelmed. Also, i spent awhile looking at before and after pics posted on this site, and for the first time I realized that I may be skinny (by my definition). I haven't even thought about that before, i was really excited to feel better in so many ways and to keep up with my daughter, i hardly considered the asthetic part. it's crazy! I'm getting really excited!

I'm trying to get in with Dr. Schauer right now.  Hopefully I'm on my way, sent the paperwork back a week ago and haven't heard back from them yet.  Going to call them tomorrow, tho.  Also to the person with Caresource Insurance.  My daughter has the same and Kim from Dr. Schauer office told her that they want a documented diet for 9 months.  So, she's going to her doctor and getting put on a diet.  Hope how soon I'm approved!!  I've got Medicare and Medical Mutual as my secondary and was told by Kim that my lap band would be covered.  So, hope to meet you all soon on the loser's bench!!

Congratulations! I am new to the boards (have been on the site for a couple months) and waiting for the insurance approval. It's going to be so cool to be approved (they tell me its a no brainer).  My surgeon in Warren, so that I am close to home for support groups. I am super excited and nervous too.  Let us know how it goes for you! Janice
