Good Morning,  I am brand new to this site, and I'm looking for some advice.  I'm thinking of getting a lap band....I saw my PCP last week and they agreed to refer me to Dr. Needleman's office at OSU. I go in for baseline labs at my PCP's today and then I'll need to scheudle a visit with Dr. Needleman's office. The thing is, I'm not in poor health.  I'm not super-obese (BMI is aout 38.5-39 or so).  I only need to lose 100 pounds to be at my goal weight.  My husband says "we'll just eat better and get on a schedule of working out."  The thing is, we've been saying that for 5 years now.  When do we do it and stick with it?  I have always been weak when it comes to food - I just love it. My huisband has said that he would prefer I lose weight the old-fashioned way, but that he'll support me, no matter what decision I make about getting a lap band.    So the bottom line is, I do want to pursue a lap band to reinforce my weight loss goals.  But I'm just not sure how to handle 1) the critisism I know I'm going to get from my family and peers (my mom didn't even want me to get an epidural when I had my daighter a few years ago!) and 2) my internal doubt that I'm just taking the easy way out.   Can anyone who's been in a similar predicament help me understand how you arrived at your decision and how you met the criticisms of others?   THanks!!

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!! You are like me we are called "LIGHT WEIGHTS" you can go to http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_lightweights/ we have a board just for us and the "you don't need WLS" issues.  I also was a 'healthy' fat person. I have a lot of people tell me I didn't NEED WLS but I knew different. I had tried EVERY diet and work out tape out there and yo-yoed all my life. You will just need to educate those close to you that you have researched this and this is the only way you will get to a 'normal' weight.  As far as being "AN EASY WAY OUT".......... NO WAY. You will have to learn a whole new lifestyle.  If anyone tells me this was the easy way out I just go into everything I had to go through to get WLS with insurance, learning how to eat and see food in a WHOLE new light, not turn to food for stress, etc.  Keep researching here and you will find that this is not an easy way out but that ANY WLS Lap Band, RNY, BPDS they are all TOOLS to get to a healthy weight.  You should also check out the GRAD board to hear about the success and struggles we al go through http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_grads/ Good Luck,  Robin
