Any have a list of lap-band friendly Primary Care Physicians in the Beavercreek, Kettering, Dayton Area? My current PCP doesn't really even consider it even though it is covered by insurance(Aetna) with a doctors recommendation and jumping thru the steps. Tank

Have you tried calling your insurance and look up other PCP'S???? I know I can go online and look up all different types of docs to see if they are in network or not. Then you could call and ask the office if they are WLS friendly before you set up your first appt.  Also as a heads, up just becaues they cover it doesn't mean you still won't have to jump through all the hoops and go through all the steps.  Back in 2003 mine was WLS was covered 100% ( I paid a total of $200 out of pocket) but I still had to met all the requirements and do all the paper work. Good Luck,  Robin

I will send you my PCP's name and phone number privately (not really comfortable posting it publicly).  He had seen me struggle with my weight and was very supportive of my RNY.  He's in the Kettering/Centerville area right off I-675. Just a caveat, though, about going to a new doctor.  I have Aetna, and there were a number of things that my PCP had to provide: a letter of his opinion of the necessity of the surgery, a general medical clearance for surgery, a copy of all my records for the past 2 years, and a log of my weight for the past 5 years.  If you start seeing a new doctor, 1) you will absolutely have to have your entire record for the past 5 years from your current PCP transferred (otherwise, the new PCP will not have all the documentation needed), 2) a new dr. may not feel comfortable giving you a general medical clearance (without doing a bunch of tests, at least) because they are not familiar enough with your health (I know one person who ran into this problem), 3) the insurance company may balk at your records of weight loss and medical issues being from one doctor and your letter of necessity and clearance being from another (although I had NO problem with getting approval from Aetna once we had all 50+ pages of documentation they needed, they have a reputation for denying approval -- on the first attempt, anyway -- for any little reason).
