Having the surgery right after delivery of baby

I have a question. I am currently pregnant and will be delivering in January. I had currently applied to my insurance company to have the surgery but was denied because I was a year from 23 (that is their policy not to approve the surgery unless you are 23). So now that I am 23 and expecting my third and final child I was wondering if anyone was able to have their surgery within a month or two of delivering. I have already completed everything  and will be going to meet with my surgeon in the next week to discuss his opinion on it but I wanted to know if anyone has done this.  Sherri

Me and my imaginary medical license thinks you should wait a bit.  You will need to heal from childbirth both physically and emotionally - it can be dramatic!!  You would also have a hard time healing from RNY while taking care of a baby - especially a baby you can't pick up and cuddle.  And add two other (I'm assuming very young) children in the mix...sounds like too much to me. Just MHO. Congrats, btw on the new baby.  They are such a wonderful blessing.

I would really look toward VERY LATE 2008 or 2009 to have your WLS. I think you should wait also. Even if you have Lap RNY you still need to heal on the inside. And if they  would have to do OPEN for any reason there is NO LIFTING for about 4-8 weeks. I was told nothing more heavier than 1 gal of milk. So you wouldn't be albe to lift your children even the newborn.  This might also be the rules with LAP also because you don't want to pull anything on the inside either.   You are normaly very tired for the first few weeks also you would need someone there caring for you and your children.   Good luck with you new one in January.  Robin
