Hi Mzteasha, Did you make it to the meeting at Mt. Carmel?  What did you think?  I am currently going through the Mt. Carmel Bariatric program.  I started back in March of this year.  I only have to complete my one-on-one appt. with the nutritionist and then I can meet with the surgeon to review all of my paperwork.  Once we reveiw my paperwork, it will be submitted to the insurance company for approval.   After speaking with Dr. Choban, who by the way is well known and a excellent surgeon, I'm going to have the Lap Band procedure done.  I am very excited about starting my new life.   Good Luck to you and let me know if you decide to stay with Mt. Carmel........Regards, Marie

At the beginning of this, you attend an informational meeting that explains their process and how the procedures are done.  After the meeting you are given a packet of papers that you can complete and return, if you are interested in moving forward with them.  After submitting your papers, you will receive four more documents to sign off on and then return them along with a check for $300.   The length of time is going to be different for everyone.  You see they give you a checklist of items that you must complete such as; attend a Bariatric Support Meeting, have a Psychological Evaluation done, and you can only attend the Bariatric Nutritional Education classes after you have completed you Psychological Eval and have paid $200 for these classes. I checked with Aetna and they will reimburse me for this cost by sending them an itemized bill.  So you would need to check with your insurance to see if they would reimburse you.  On top of these depending on the medical history that you submit to them, you may have to do the following: *EKG by your primary care physician *Cardiac Evaluation if necessary *Pulmonary Evaluation *Sleep Study So keep in mind that it's not always easy to get into the doctor right away.  The longest I've had to wait is a month at a time and I consider that being pretty lucky.  The other item on the checklist is called the "Diet History" and depending on which insurance you have and what you can do, this can take you up to 6 months to complete.  I have Medicare as my primary and Aetna as my secondary.  Medicare is fine, they don't ask for a lot.  However, Aetna wants a lot more.  Since I am disabled and unable to exercise in any shape or form, they require that I follow a 3-month reduced calorie diet program with a dietician as well as going to my primary care physician to review my status each month.   Out of the bullet points I listed above, I only had to complete the Sleep Study.  I'm glad that I did because I have been so exhausted since the beginning of the year and I finally found out what was causing it.  I have severe Sleep Apnea.  Mine was so bad that I had to get the newest machine that just came out in order to help me, because the standard CPAP machines didn't help me. I hope this helped to answer your question.  Take Care and Good Luck.......Marie
