Hi, MzTeasha
I had my surery at OSU by Dr. Charles Cook and he was amazing. He made my stomach 1 oz and have not had any problems thus far. I really like OSU programs that they offer vs Barix Clinic. I did every thing they told me to do and drop my weight real fast. I lost more than the excepted of me in the 1st year. I lost 172 within the 1st year and lost a total of 202 ibs and still maintaining. If you have any more question just email me at work [email protected] or call me if you fell free 614-439-5217 or work no# 614-776-7350. Leave a message if I don't answer.

Forget OSU. Have your surgery done by Dr. Stephen Myers at Riverside. Dr. Myers is the most compassionate person (not just surgeon) I have met towards overweight people. I love his total commitment to my health. When have you seen a sugeon do this in the last twenty years. He called me at home to see how I was doing? And pre-op - when I was in his office and he had a question about my insulin pump, he called my endo guy right then and there. Not two weeks later or faxed something and then waited for it. Right then and there. He even gave me his cell phone number as well as his personal pager before I left the hospital. And his staff is tops. They are not degrading or condescending towards overweighters at all. Just simply, caring people. All of them. Annie even gave me a hug. And they know the insurance stuff too. Verrry important.
Good luck to you.
I had Dr. Mikami at OSU. He was fantastic. As was the staff at OSU. My room was right by the nurses station and it was kind of noisy - but I just buzzed the nurse and asked them to close my door - and they did ASAP. I truly have no complaints about the whole program. It was excellent. Dr. Mikami is excellent, and Dr. Needleman is a known expert in bariatrics.
I have had a problem with Riverside in the past, but in a field TOTALLY not related to bariatrics. I have a friend who is using Dr. Choban next month - but can' t remember which hospital that is...my friend has indicated that she LOVES everything she has seen or done with the staff. They seem to be very attentive with her.
You are wise to research and ask - but in then end, you have to go with who YOU feel the best with (and of course, who takes your insurance). Best of Luck!!

I'm going to DisneyWorld!! And you're all invited to join me!!

I am currently going through OSU although I haven't had my surgery yet. I have met with Dr. Mikami and really did like him.
My daughter had open RNY about 5 yrs ago and recently had some problems. According to the CAT scan she had intersusception (hope spelling is ok) that's when the intestines telescope into itself. They did emergency surgery and didn't find anything. Anyway she was in the Bariatric wing of OSU for almost a week and the staff there was very nice, expecially this one RN who had her RNY in March. The only negative thing about her stay was that it happened on the weekend of the Bariatric convention in San Diego. There wasn't a bariatric doctor in sight.
Someone mentioned Dr. Choipan, she's with Mt. Carmel I believe but it seems like I read that she was with OSU at one time.
You need to research all of the doctor's who are covered in your insurance, read all of info on them and what the patients have to say about them. And then make up your mind.
I do have one negative thing to say about OSU. You often read about patients having their initial consult with the doctor at the beginning of their journey. Well OSU doesn't do that. I'm sure it's because the doctor's are so busy.
I wish you luck in your quest.
