Question about vitamins and supplements

My surgery is Tuesday...YAY!!! I'm curious as to what you all used after surgery for vitamins and supplements...the chewable kind.  I need to get some for when I get home from the hospital and I'm confused on what to get.  Some say you can use chewable children's vitamins, but is that really enough?  Calcium...I know about Viactiv.  Don't have a whole lot of money to use, so I could really use some suggestions.  Optisource vitamins for 1 month supply are $27.  I know there are cheaper ones out there that are just as good.  I'm doing okay with food, just worried about my vitamins.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Laura

I had a rough time with my vitamins , in the fat of finding one I could stand.  I had stoked up on all kinds of childrens chewables. When ever I saw a deal or them on sale.  Then I couldn't stand them the taste.  I got some wonderful help from some on here.  Flinstones complete, they tast so much better and no nasty after taste.  For calcium I get thoose caltrate chews its a nice treat and get get the target or kroger brand where ever I am and they're just fine. Don't forget your B-12 helps with your energy and helps with not loosen your hair (suppost too). Oh and  th B-12 get the kind that dissolves under the tongue. Hope that helps you, Linda

most surgeons recommend chewable kids vits for awhile - mine then prescribed prenatals for me when i was able to swallow an entire pill- they have iron and my ins covers them- you will need to do everything in stages- which should be outlined by your doc or nutritionist.... as for calcium- mix your protein shakes in milk if you can handle it- and when you move to soups and creams- eat cottage cheese and creamed soups strained (to get the celery or mushrooms out!) i put unflavored protein in pudding when i made it up- still do sometimes for added oompf! once you can get to cottage cheese it could become your best friend for awhile! don't sweat this stuff but good that you are worried! i do buy my B12 sublingual at rite aid at the GNC section- a good value --and you probly won't need to start that right away. i'm over by fremont-give me a shout!
