I'm home!

Well surgery was Wednesday and I got home last night. WOW. I worried, but I learned I worried about the wrong things. I was worried about not waking up and if this was the right decision when I should have been worried about the pain. OMG!!! The pain from the sugery itself wasn't so bad, yes it was painful but managable. I don't remember anyone mentioning anything about the gas pain. I seriously thought I was going to die. The gas that they fill you up with during surgery is the worst. It was great discomfort until Thursday night around 11 and it became outright pain that lasted for over 4 hrs. The nurses tried to keep me calm saying that it was just gas and that it will pass as soon as I pass gas. I have never wanted to fart so bad in my life! Well the bubble must have moved because the pain went away enough that I could finally go to sleep but I still didn't pass gas until late yesterday afternoon. Overall since then I've been feeling pretty good. The worst now seems to be from hiccups. It seems like everytime I have to get up from a chair or bed I have to hiccup. Its usually just one or two but OWW. Now if I could just find somewhere comfortable to sleep. I tried my bed and now I'm trying my recliner. Neither is comfortable so I'll be happy when I can sleep in my bed on my stomach because that's when I'm most comfortable. Plus I need to get my little dog to stop jumping on me. The kids are good so far about being real careful around me and helping me out but the dog just doesn't get it. When my husband and I got home yesterday the kids were outside with the dog and I thought he was going to go nuts. He missed me and hasn't left my side since I've been home.  Oh well, I just wanted to let everyknow that I was home and overall doing pretty good. Now back to drinking tha****er.

It was nice to see you Linda! I am glad you are feeling better. At least now I know what to expect. I know everyone has a different experience so I just pray everything goes well for me. I am really not that nervous anymore. I feel confident that Dr White will take good care of me. I am of course concerned about the pain.  I will just make sure I have a steady flow of meds at all times. Talk to ya soon!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!You made it to the losers bench!!!!!!!!! I will see you there next week! Malissa

Hi Linda, glad you are on the other side of things! I had lap Band Monday 7/9/07, and I am also surprised by how bad the gas hurts! I don't know what to believe, but my doc told me that the gas will have to be absorbed into my body, so for me it's not an issue of intestinal gas. This gas has settled into my left shoulder and rib cage (because it can't rise any higher) and it just feels like someone is stabbing me with a knife. Walking sometimes helps, but has also made it hurt worse on occasion. Last night it had me in tears. I have 5 laparoscopic incisions, and not a one of them have given me any trouble. The gas pain is by FAR the biggest downer for me. I go back to work this coming Wednesday, I just hope it's gone by then!! Good Luck, and hang in there! Brenda

Hey Linda, are you feeling better? I sprained my ankle today and am not feeling that well. It has been hurting quite a bit. Just what I need right before surgery!!  I have my concert tomorrow night, this is going to be very interesting!!! Let me know how you are doing! Malissa

How on earth did you spain your ankle?? You silly girl. Your right, your concert will be very interesting now, hopping all around. Overall, I feel pretty good. The gas pains are pretty much gone, still tend to drink a little too much at a time but I'm afraid of not getting in all the liquids. So I haven't figured out how to balance it yet. I'll be happy when the drain tube is out tomorrow. It seems to be the only thing that really bothers me now. So I'm hoping when its out I'll be able to sleep a little more comfortable. Still hard to find a comfortable position to sleep when your used to sleeping on your stomach and you have a tube sticking out. Oh well, one more day of it. Just two more days for you!!! YEAH!!!

Well congrats and welcome to the losers bench.  Yo will feel so much better when that drain tube comes out.  Two night before mine came out i was at the ER in terrible pain that would take my breathe away.  When he pull out the drain tube it relieved the pain.  That night I was able to sleep in my own bed, till that night I could only sleep in the recliner.  can;t wait to here how you ck up goes. Linda

I had 10 C-sections so I know the pain you describe. The two best relivers are to walk as much as possible and lying on your left side. I hope you're feeling better soon!
