Got my date too!!!!
I didn't have to. I just had to stop eating at midnight the day before. I had an icecream cone at Rita's that afternoon..with sprinkles and then nothing but jello until midnight. I did ask my primary care physician for some Ativan to take the night before and in the am of surgery and it really helped me. I was in the hospital for two days. I slept in the recliner for about 5 days after surgery and then I was able to move back to my bed. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR MEDS EXACTLY THE WAY THEY WANT YOU TO. You will be fine.
Amy -

Amy, I noticed that we have the same surgeon. I'm going for my pre-op work-up tomorrow. I live about 65 miles from the Clinic. I'm so nervous that they will find something that will prevent the surgery. I'm in generally good health, with a lot of skeletal problems (need a lot of joint replacements), bad family health history, and I'm 56 y/o. Did they initially give you any literature about WLS meetings in your area? Only literature that I got was about the RNY itself. My sister had her RNY done here about 8 years ago and has not had any problems related to the surgery. My cousin, who just turned forty, will be having hers done by Dr. Custer also, but has not been given a date as of yet. These boards are very informative, but some of the stuff here scares the heck out of me. Hope everyone is doing well and keeping their heads together. I'm not usually a nervous person, but this has me rattled a little bit. By the way, I live close to Marion, Ohio. Have a lot of relatives in Westerville. Just discovered that you now have a Half-Price Bookstore, which is one of my favorite stores. Hope to talk with you all on the leaner side!

Nancy,
Yes we do have the same surgeon~I haven't heard much about him, have you? Everyone else seems to have surgery by Dr. V or Dr. Pop.. So if you are having your pre-op work done tomorrow then they have you scheduled for surgery correct? What day? How long since your consult until your surgery date? So your having RNY? Is that what your cousin is having also? No I didn't receive any info on the support groups just what you received also. I did see on either Barix boards or maybe this one that they do have meetings once a month, the day depends on the location, but they showed a Deleware location, which I thought I might try to get to,and that should be closer for you if your near Marion,I think they met on either Tues. or Wed. nights~
I agree~some of the information is of great help and very informative~while others KEEP me up at night! I bought the book "Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies" and it has quite a bit of useful tips etc. in it,do you have it? If not you may want to purchase it~it goes from your first consult all the way up to if you have to have any plastic surgery done afterwards;plus recipes from purees to soft food stages . If you don't mind let's keep in touch since we have the same surgeon etc.;its always good to have someone else that has the same Dr. to get info from~Let me know how your day goes tomorrow with your pre-op~I'll be thinking of you!

I had my initial consultation in April. I got my approval from the insurance company two weeks after that, but I had to have a sleep apnea test and that took for ever to get the test and the results back. Mild sleep apnea by the way and if they would have waited a few more weeks my acute allergy season would have been done and I think that the sleep apnea thing would be moot. IMO! LOL!
My cousin is probably going to go the way of the band. I'm not sure, because there are some work related issues for her and I think her mom is worried about a RNY. Clinic called me a couple of weeks ago and wanted to know if I could come for PAT on July 2nd, and my surgery was set up for July 25th. I was so happy they scheduled it before cold weather set in, so I could get outside and walk. I don't have "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies", but am going to Amazon to see if it is available. I haven't heard that much about Dr. Custer. I know he was at OSU before joining BClinic. The way they talked, I won't be seeing him again until the day of surgery. I think the an internist will be giving me my final physical. Have you said anything to your family physician about WLS? I didn't think that I needed too, except who is going to follow up on me. I read somewhere that a lady went to see her regular physician after WLS, but was told that she wouldn't treat her because of the WLS, against policy or something. When I first started with my doctor, the nurse there had just had WLS. She was over 400 lbs. That was a few years ago. I seen her a few months ago and she had done the plastic surgery on her tummy and started crying when she told me because it was the first time that she was able to buy clothes off the rack since she was a kid. I met another woman in the waiting room, who had WLS and she told me it was the best thing that she had ever done and that if you need to follow your post-op instructions like a Bible. She had a tank top on and a pair of bib overalls. She looked really nice and fit. (Sigh!) That is my goal healthy and fit and MOBILE!
Something about all the problems people are having after RNY; one lady said for everyone that has a problem, there are a 100 who don't. I was encouraged about that. Did someone mention Rita's? Is that the little lady's ice cream shop that makes her own ice cream. My son took us walking at Innis Park and then to an ice cream place for ice cream. Somewhere in Westerville, is all I know.
Well, see you on the leaner side.

Yesterday I met with a nurse, nutritionist, respiratory therapist, and internist. Got lots of information and now have an appointment for a adenosine stress test and a pulmonary clearance. I was a little irked because I'm asystomatic for cardiac and pulmonary problems. I know they are covering their basis, but....... and I am an old geezer! LOL! They let me sample some of the protein powders and a protein jello. I think one was Nectar, which was really good. There was a chocolate and vanilla powder and I can't remember which brand they were; didn't like the chocolate. They sent home some samples to try : Matrix 5.0, Any Whey, and Nectar Fuzzy Navel. I got tons of materials, and am in overload. I have to give them credit, because my surgery date is on July 25th, they got me scheduled next Monday in Columbus for both testings. I was happy with that because I will only have to travel over an hour one more time before the actual surgery. I know I wouldn't be able to get in that fast in Marion. Hope things are going well for those in the process.
