I am currently on my second day of the liquid diet before my RYN Gastric Bypass. I am going crazy if anyone has any hints that may help me with this diet please let me know. If there are any different soup recipes that can help I would be glad to accept some of those as well.  Thanks Melissa

Dear Melissa, I know that the liquid diet is really really hard. I have been on regular food now for two weeks. Don't ru**** I tried and I paid for it. I found that cottage cheese, applesauce, and Campbell's soup was my best friend. Hang in there. You will make it.  Sincerely,  Kris

How many days do you have to do it? My surgery is next Monday; today is the first day of liquids for me. My doctor gave  me the supplements-- iIhave to have six per day mixed with water. Plus all clear liquids, sugar-free popcicles adn SF jello. What is your regime? If ou let me know, I can help with some tips.

My doctor wants me on two weeks of full liquids and two days of clear liquids. The sugar free stuff is killing me. It has to be made with splenda or I will get sick of the after taste. The only soups I have found that are good are home made. I made split pea soup last night and it was the bomb. Tonight we had chicken tortillia soup from Swans dude. It really good purred as well. I had chicken an rice for lunch and almost throw up. NASTY, NASTY. Any good Ideas would be greatful. If it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't have fruit I would be fine. The no fruit law is just wrong.

Are you doing any high protein liquids? That is what really helps keep hunger at bay. I also find that hot things are more soothing and satisfying. I use chicken broth, heated to boiling. (about 2 cups) and scramble 1 or 2 egs with some parm chees. Scramble it into the hot broth (off heat) and the eggs cook in the broth. It is very satisfying--like Italian egg drop soup. If the doc did not give you any supplements, any of the high protein, low carb drinks would be OK as well. As long as they are really cold, they are good. Have you tried making smoothies? I am not sure what is on your list--can you do yogurt? Are you in Columbus? Rita's Italian Ice has some great sugar-free flavors--with Splenda I know it is hard, as I am doing it myself right now. I keep thinking short term pain, long term gain. I also have a supply of coloring books to keep my mind off of wanting to eat.

My husband gets paid on friday so he said that he will buy me some protein supplements then.  The hard part is having a four year old running around asking for peanut butter. Thats the killer. My weaknes****s me square in the teeth. Thanks for your suggestions I will have to try some of them.

Melissa, I have to tell you the truth...yes its hard, BUT..I promise after the 3rd day you will feel fine.  It seems that we all (those of us that do the liquid pre-op) have a really hard time but after the 3rd day we are fine.  Hang in there, its almost over.  As for what saved me...I lived on pea soup, popsicles, cottege cheese and a small amout of yoguart.  When things start to get to you, go take a long bath and just get away from the kitchen, drink lots of fluids to fill your belly also.  Hope this helps....Good Luck. Thanks after the third day things have got better. I was bad with camping but everything is working out other wise. I did find that the protein whey with chocolate sugar free pudding mixed in is very yummy. Also if you take strawberry yogert and sugar free vanilla ice cream and mix them its yummy as well. I am learning. I am glad I am on the liquid diet it is helping realize that I do have some self control over what I eat.  Melissa

Hi Melissa, I know I am struggling HARD with the liquids too,. I am on my 3rd day and Mercy!!.....

I am a wreck, I am tired, and VERY emotional!! But anyways, I am doing the optifast YUCKIE!!!!  I find that the strawberry is the worst, I plug my nose and powerslam it. The chocolate is very good .. taste like pudding ( I wished I had bought all chocolate) The vanilla is do -able  if you can mix it with surgar free root beer or orange pop it taste like a float. or you can sprinkle surgar free jello in it  to altar the taste. I hope that helps. Blessings, Valarie
