Woo-hoo!  I did it!  I got information on riding lessons!  One of our metro parks offers lessons and I'm going to go observe a class. This is something I ALWAYS wanted to do.  When I was a kid, our neighbors had horses and ponies, and I learned everything there was to know about them.  At one point, I almost went into equine science and became a vet.  EXCEPT I was always too heavy to ride.  (At least I thought so) I am sitting here sobbing.  I guess I never realized how much this mattered to me.  I can't thank Dr. C. enough for his help in getting me here.    Sign up for fall lessons starts 8/6.

I am so happy for you!!  I am crying with you....I don't do that often, but I know what it is like to love horses! The last time I went riding, they made me wait until they could get a bigger horse and then I needed a step to get on, and then the guy had to help me get my leg over....so embarrasing...My mom kept saying it is fine just go have fun...but that was all I thought about the whole ride! I cannot wait until I am in your spot saying I can finally ride! I am so happy for you!!!!  Ride 'em Cowgirl!!!!! Colleen

I am so excited for you!! More than you will ever know!! I am having my surgery in a couple of weeks and one of my goals is to be able to ride a horse. On my honneymoon My husband and I were given free riding lessons as a treat a the resort we were staying at. I was so excited I could not wait. When time came for us to go riding I was told that my husband can take the lessons but I was to heavy. GO YOU!! CONGRADULATIONS!!

Hey Sindarin,

I know exactly where you are at with that one.  I have always had and rode horses all my life (4-H, Quarter Horse Circuit, NEOHA, Etc.) I was so depressed when I got to big to ride or even help take care of them.  They are the most majestic creatures and I miss just jumping on bareback with a halter and lead and just riding.  Its such one of lifes simplest pleasures. My daughter shows my mom's QH mare (actually she won't be showing this year, we had to put her to sleep b/c she was in foal and the foal was breach, died in utero during labor and we couldn't save either one. Very sad but when you breed and sell, thats one of the risks you take) Anyway she also has a Percheron that my daughter hitches up and drives.  Now that Im 3 months out and down 3 pounds shy of  80 pounds I really want to get back into riding. There is no greater feeling than the connection between rider and horse.

To be honest, my gift to my self when I reach my goal weight is to go on a cattle drive out west.  I know it sound "City Slickerish" but that is one thing that I want to do before I die and this new lease on life I have been given will help to provide that avenue.

So I will say best wishes to you and enjoy each and every minute of your riding. Its the best thing ever!!!

May you ALWAY give without remembering and take without forgetting!
