Personally, I feel that having the surgery done laproscopically is the best choice in my instance because with the diabetes I have slowed healling times...  *Faster healing times *Less chance for post-op infection *Reduced chance for hernia developement

MAYBE I WAS INFORMED WRONG BUT MY FAMILY DOC. IS OUT OF B.G AND THAT;S WHAT I WAS TOLD BUT THAT HAS BEEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO. I DO NOT THINK I'VE HEARD OF THE DS  WHAT EXACTLEY IS THAT? I STILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO DECIDE ON WHICH ONE TO DO BUT I'M STILL GATHERING AS MUCH INFO ON ALL TYPES BEFORE I DECIDE TO EVEN GO THROUGH IT OR NOT. I'VE BEEN ON THE INTERNET AND HAVE COME UP WITH ABOUT 10 OR SO ISSUES WITH BOTH TYPES AND I AM JUST SO CONFUSED. I WANT OT CHANGE MY LIFE AND BE HEALTHIER AND I HAVE TRIED DOING IT ON MY OWN BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK. I'LL LOSE SOME POUNDS BUT THEY COME BACK--WITH FRIENDS!! I HOPE YOU JOURNEY GOES WELL AND YOU GET THE RESULTS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.  WISH ME LUCK AND I'LL POST ANY NEW INFO. I GET ON EITHER TYPE AND MAYBE TAT WILL HELP WHOEVER ELSE OUT THERE IS HAVING " BEING TORN" ISSUES AS WELL.

Ok if you look up at the top left hand corner of this page just above where it says 'Welcome *your name*  you will see SURGERY TYPES  click on that link and explore them... the different message boards for each procedure are accessable from there also....   I hope this info helps...   Here is something I found in my research that led me to the DS:   Researchers were able to narrow down type 2 resolution rates for specific kinds of stomach surgery. Among those *****ceived gastric banding, 47.8 percent experienced resolution. The resolution rate was 68.2 percent for those *****ceived gastroplasty (VSG); 83.8 percent for those *****ceived gastric bypass (such as Roux-en-Y); and 97.9 percent for those *****ceived biliopancreatic diversion and duodenal switch procedures. Improvement rates also varied, but were never less than 80 percent.

Ok I am so pissed I went to my Doctors office Happy thinkin here is my plan I'm getting my doc to fill out my paper work & i'll just have him send it to the Lap surgeon & get the Lap Screw it...It was after all my first choice after being yelled at by my mom hey its reversable..And what if something goes wrong you can always get it removed..BLAH BLAH BLAH...Ok at this point I really am willing to try anything to lose weight ok...So I am waiting in the office and My Docs Nurse walks in and says ok what have you done so far to try and get approved for this surgery so i said well i've been Comming here for the past 6 months getting weighed telling my Doc what I have been eatting and doing for exercise right...But Mind you I have been gaining from the Fricken Avandia...For type 2 diebetes...Right...So she starts telling me that he has only been writing in my weight each month and nothing else..& insurance companies want to see more proof of things and 5 years of failed attempts of weight loss & any mediation I have tried for weight loss Well I have had alot of doctors in the past I used to go to Toledo hospital clinic which was all residents for petes sake I have been on something for weight loss but it did not work cause it made me super jittery...I could not talk it ..But Who the hell knows what the name of it let alone the Doc who gave it too me...So I asked wouldn't it be in my past medical records Hello..Don't you people have them Well I've Only been w/ my Doc for over a year now my last doc is the only medical files we have you from WHAT,, OMG I was pissed I mean Come on,...So she says see if he will put me on a Pill to loose weight, But He came in and said no cause I am having problem w/ Avandia and to stop taking it And he wants me to go and get more tests...But to try and go ahead and keep my July apt to meet the Lap Band Surgeon..And I may get approved and his nurse should have never told me thatt he said"...Well I was done w/ him and she said well just come in every week and I'll weigh you til you go in July..Right..So WTF seriously this is super Bull****

Wow!! And I thought I had a bad day!! I totally hear ya though! I just found out today that I can't even get into see my doctor until the end of the month and I was hoping to have surgery then. It will all happen in due time, so hang in there! This process can definitely be frustrating! I know that's not what you wanted to hear cuz I know I didn't want to especially hear it earlier today either, but it is true! They have to be able to help you with the medical records! Come on!!! Keep your chin up!

Nikki,  I'm sorry you had such a bad day!   I've got to ask ... did you go thru your insurance booklet or call the insurance co. to find out what your specific policy requires prior to approval?   Do that... then once you find out, go from there.
