Ok O****ep changing my mind from one surgery to another First it was Lap Band Now I spoke w/ A very Kind Nurse in Bowling Green in Ohio and She says I should come speak w/ them so I made a Date to meet w/ Doc Brian Lane he does RNY/ Lap / & DS and I like he has been around the block a couple times w/ these surgerys & Like I posted previously To meet w/ the Lap Surgeon I need my paper work from my Doc w/ all my diets and other forms and 150.00$$$ and the Nurse which I spoke w/ ask why is that money part necasary  so it got me wondering..I was all about the Lap, But I keep reading all the stories which I love ...But I guess now my thoughts are If I am really gonna have this surgery any surgery why shouldn't I get the one that seems to me to be the most effective w/ the type 2 diebetes , which is why I am getting the surgery to lose the weight to lose the diebetes...Not knocking one or the other I just hear so many stories about Lap being not so effective....Please don't think I am bashing anyone who chose the Lap But now I am just not so sure...Thx Nikki in Tol,Oh

Hi Nikki, I am also from the Toledo area and am working with Dr White for RNY surgery. You should attend one of his seminars her does them once a month, the first Tuesday I think. He will answer alot of your questions. I believe the lap is not quite as effective, but I just knew that was not the route for me from the beginning so I really didnt investigate it much. Keep researching and you will find the right fit for you! Good luck!!

Hi Nikki,  No you are not nuts!!  I researched about a year before I made my choice... this is huge lifestyle change and you need to choose what procedure is right for you and what you can live with.  I am having the DS procedure with Dr. Lane... I chose the DS because it has a 98% cure rate for type 2 diabetes.   Meet with Dr. Lane and Amy (his assistant) it is well worth the $150... Each are very patient and spend the amount of time you need to have questions answered.

Have you been to the 'Informational Seminar' yet?   If not, either Dr. Lane or Amy attend them... the one I went to Amy was there..I asked questions during the seminar and caught her after with more... then I had my initial appointment at Dr. Lane's office.

I have to jump in LAP is the way the go in not a WLS . Almost all WLS can be done LAP The types of WLS are BAND, RNY, DS/BPD etc.  You can have LAP Band, LAP RNY, LAP DS/BPD, etc.  With that said you have to REASEARCH, REASEARCH and REASEARCH some more and find out what is right for YOU. We each chose what we had for different reasons. I went to 2 different groups that did several different types of WLS.  They had people from wach type get up and tell about it. Then I chose what was right for me.  I had OPEN RNY in 2003 back then they didn't do much LAP most docs were still learning how to do LAP. Now my same doc does most LAP and not as many OPEN.  Good luck, Robin

I AM IN THE SAME BOAT RIGHT NOW. I WENT TUESDAY FOR MY 1ST CONSULATION ANDI WAS ALL FOR THE LAP BAND BUT IWANT TO DO THE BEST THING FOR ME. I HAVE TYPE 2 DIABETES AS WELL, AND I'M TIRED OF DEALING WITH HAVING TO TAKE PILLS TWICE A DAY. I HAVE HEARD STORIES ON BOTH SURGERYS AND NOW IM' JUST TORN. I HAVE HEARD SO MANY STORIES ABOUT BOTH TYPES AND SOME HAVE BEEN GOOD AND SOME HAVE BEEN BAD-WHAT IS A GIRL TO DO? I'VE HEARD OF DR. LANE IWAS SUPPOSED TO GO AND SEE HIM MYSELF BUT HEARD THAT HE ONLY DOES THE FUL CUT OPEN TYPE AND I DID NOT WANT THAT ONE DONE. I AM SEEING A DOCTOR IN FINDLAY AND THAT'S ONLY ABOUT 20 MINUTES FROM BOWLING GREEN. I WISH YOU LUCK BUT BE SURE YOU GATHER ALL THE INFO YOU NEED AND WANT BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO GO WITH DR.LANE. HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON---LADONNA

Dr. Lane does not generally do the 'Full Cut Open Type'   his preferred method is laproscopic.  Also you should make sure you research all WLS options!   Lap Band; RNY; DS; and the VSG ... are the 4 main procedures.   Lap Band and VSG are resrictive only...  RNY and DS are restrictive as well as malabsorptive... out of the RNY and DS, the DS has a 98% cure rate for type 2 diabetes.
