Hi to all. I am new to OH and trying to figure out how things work and understanding the jargon. I have recently been approved for surgery and I am scheduled for 6/18. I am wondering about the pre-op liquid diet. Will I have to do this I am having open Roux-En-Y?  I am looking forward to meeting people to share in this journey.

Welcome to OH! i had open RNY with Dr. Sonpal's partner, Dr. Schrieber almost 3 months ago. My pre surgery liqid diet was only for 1 day pre op combined with the bowel prep and nothing after midnight.  Best of luck to you! They have a great program at St. V's. The doctors, staff and nurses were all great before, during and after surgery.

Hi and welcome to OH. I am scheduled for RNY with Dr. Ben-Meir on 6/19/07. As a matter of fact, I go for my pre-op testing tomorrow (5/25/07). I will be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior to surgery because I am having lap.  Good luck with your surgery and the wonderful new life you are about to begin!!!! Denise

Hey Laura, Welcome! They should tell you everything you need to know during the "educational" portion of your pre-op testing day. I have Dr. Sonpal now as well, didn't have to do the liquid diet for open at that time, so who knows. Good luck today!

I am new to this site and I too will be going to St. Vincent Charity. I am having the by-pass. How long did it take to get your date from the time your papers went to the insurance? Blessings! Valarie

Hi Valarie, My insurance approval took a bit over three weeks to come back. I happened to call my insurance company the day they approved me so I was able to move very quickly from there. I was approved 5/21, had Pre-op testing today and surgery will be 6/18.  I am excited, scared and everything in between at this point.  Do you know if you are having open or lap? Blessings to you Laura

Dr. BM did my lap RNY on 3/7/07.  I have lost 63 lbs so far and I feel great.   My insurance took about 2 weeks to get approved.  It was the longest 2 weeks of my entire life!!!  I called and emailed every day and drove CCBS crazy.   After the insurance approval, everthing moves quickly...you get a pre admission testing day and a surgery date right away.  St. V's does a great job at educating you before, during and after surgery.  I read other posts  from people who have surgery all over the country and they don't get the support that St. V's offers. Good luck to you and keep us posted. Shelley

Hi All , I am having Lap.  I am told that if I do not lose 14 more pounds the surgeon can cancel my surgery. They want me to buy this OPI stuff for 150.00 bucks a can. I said  NO WAY!! I refuse to spend another dime. ALready spent up in the thousands... Well anyways , all my stuff was done May 5th however the I called my insurance company yesterday and they said that it was just assigned a case number on May 24th.   I was really hoping to be done with it by June.. But it is not in my hands. Please keep me posted everyone. Blessings to you all!
