Heart Burn
After I reached my goal weight I started getting heart burn. I had moved to another state so I had to find another surgeon. He had me do the exam where you drink the barium and it showed very little liquid was getting through. So he emptied my lap band and and told me to wait six weeks and we would begin filling again. I did not experience the heart burn but did gain about seven pounds. The next time I got a fill I didn't have a problem but I gained another eight pounds. The next fill I got the heart burn back so I went back and they took some more out, and told me to take prilosec for the next two weeks and then see if I still had the heart burn. It has been about two months and I still have the heart burn if I don't take the prilosec. I have been at the same weight. I am afraid to go back because I don't want them to take out more fill and I gain MORE weight or worse yet they tell me I have to have the band removed...sounds so stupid when I actually say what I am scared of. Anyone know what causes heart burn associated with lap bands?
I hope you get a chance to read this, i just stumbled across it. Heart burn can happen to anyone who has had the Lap Band. emptying the band and then slowly refilling it cantake care of the problem. Ask your bariatric surgeon to try puting you on Nexium, Aciphex or Prilosec, to see if this helps. If it does not and the heartburn remains, you may need to have the Band reseated. Though it sounds scary, it is not a difficult operation to do. it the hands of an experienced bariatric surgeon it can be done and they can have you on your way in no time.
Good luck and Good health.
