I am having open rny and I am concern with pain. Can anyone tell me the amount of pain that I will be in? Do I need to hire a nurse to be home with me after coming hoime? What are some tips to keep from being nauseated? Help!

I don't think you'll need a nurse. Just take your meds like they tell you and you'll do just fine. Why arn't you haveing it done Lap?....oh well your on your way to a new life....good luck young Lady. Dave

Hi Loisjean, Are you having Lap or open? I had lap and wasnt in too much pain. The first week is the toughest pain-wise, and the binder helped me. I dont think you would need a nurse, although sure sounds good to me!! You should be ok, just keep on top of the pain meds they give you, Michelle

I had OPEN RNY in 2003 and the pain was not to bad. I did't take all my pain meds but when I did need them, TAKE THEM. Keep your binder on that helps A LOT. I don't think you'll need a nurse but you might want someone with you for the first 72 hours after your home just to get settled in. You also might be more comfey sleeping in a recliner and not a bed. You use a lot of abs to get in and out of bed. I was givedn a RX for nausa but I can't remember what it was. Ask your doc. Just remember to sip your water, crystal light, protein shake, or what ever your doc says. And get up and walk around even when you get home. Keep those questions coming but remember we all had different docs and each one has different answers. Always ask your doc what is right for you. I was able to eat real food within one week of surgery. Good Luck, Robin
