I need a pep talk...tell me its all worth it
Hi Tina,
My sleep study saved my life - and my marriage. I was snoring so loud my husband had moved to another bedroom. I was told to have the sleep study by my allergist surprisely. I can not sleep without a TV on - period. I usually wouldn't fall asleep until after 3:00am. I would wake up with my sheets dringed in sweat which my husband really hated.
So I went and had the sleep study and I was sure I would never fall to sleep because of course, you can't have any outside noises during the study. But I was surprise once all the lights were out, I was asleep in under 30 minutes the tech told me. After the study I was told I stopped breathing about 20-25 times AN HOUR!!! That is dangerous.
They fitted me with a CPAP machine. It has made a world of difference. For one, the machine is totally quite so it doesn't disrupt my husband's sleeping. Also, my night sweats has almost stopped completely. It's amazing. I have been on the machine for about 2 months. I'm hoping my sleep apena is from my extra weight and with my surgery (5/2/07), I won't be on the CPAP forever. But if I have to, I well.
Good luck with your journey.
Tammie
Hi there Tammie!
Wow that is really great for you to have found out why you were having all those problems. I too am up till all hours in the morning and have the tv on to fall asleep. Maybe this is what I need then this sleep study. Thanks so much for sharing your personal experience with me. Good luck to you also.
Blessings
Tina
Hi Tina,
I couldn't agree with you more on your asceration of Dr. Ben-Meir! Wonderful Dr.
I answered yes to two of the questions as well and had to have a sleep test. No big deal. I had a hard time falling asleep though. The tech who administered the test said that as long as she could get 30 minutes of sleep or that I hit at least 1 REM cycle they could get all the data they needed. I had a hard time sleeping b/c of all the wires they have you hooked up to. I sleep on my tummy and the wires just got all twisted and didn't reach so I had a real hard time getting and staying asleep. I also can't sleep without TV being on and the tech let me keep it on all night. It turned out that I didn't have sleep apnea either. So that was good.
I had to have the upper GI too. That was very tramatizing. They didn't give me enough "twilight" med's and I kept gagging up the scope. It was awful! But I lived just had a really soar throat.
I fortunately didn't have to do the vascular, 6 month preop diet or the optifast. So Im sorry I can't relate there.
I hope all works out well for you. You will be fine. There are lots of people who have had to have a few tests. Just look at it this way. Would you be comfortable with or have confidence in a Dr. or a program that didn't feel that taking every precaution was a necessity and that "inconveniencing" you just a little bit was an acceptable measure? Small price to pay for your safety and well-being, NO? CCBS and Dr. Ben-Meir are outstanding in this respect. They are definately focused on you as a patient and making sure you have the best possible recovery by taking all the pre-op precautions.
Best wishes to you and keep posting. We are all here to support and encourage you and one another.
