Hi all. I'm preop. And I weigh over 400 lbs. I have been heavy all my life but never this heavy. I have trouble overeating. I know thats my problem and I've admitted it to myself, but I dont know what to do. Some people tell me to just push myself away from the table or to have the surgery anyways. Its not that easy. I'm afraid I'll go crazy if I have the surgery and can't eat. It's a mental game. Or what if I have the surgery, lose weight, but once I am able to eat more, I return to my old eating habits. What can I do? I'm in therapy. But, its not really helping. I think I'm too far gone. Any advice? another thing, I have medicaid, and I've been told that they are not approving as many people, more or less they are getting more strict. Any advice on that?

Hi Bobbie! I think most of us on this site were overeaters. I remember the amounts of food that I ate pre op and it scares me. Post op I have fears that I am eating too much but it's nearly impossible. Your stomach will protest and trust me it does not feel good. Of course there are ways of defeating the surgery but once the hunger is gone, and the restriction is in place you'll be amazed at what you can do with your tool. Best of luck!!! Blue

I think all of us on OH suffer from a food addiction. After my surger though, the addiction was replaced by how I felt losing weight. I would much rather be losing and getting healtier than eating anything I want. I read a post a while back that said, "nothing tastes as good as thin feels". Once the restriction is in place, overeating is sooooo painful and results in vomiting that I am pretty careful. You will be too! good luck, shelley
