I have been having pain in my stomach and my right side and after an ultra sound this morning they want to do more work. Some kind of Hydascan or something like that?? Anyone ever heard of this??

Mike, We must be twins...I am having exactly the same issues, saw my doctor yesterday and had ultrasound. They are scheduling me for a hydrascan and if that is normal, than having a cat scan , if that is normal an endoscopy. The hydrascan is a nuclear test that they inject radioactive dye and watch your gall bladder react. It checks if the gall bladder is working properly or if it is diseased. We will both get through this, just a pain in the ---, or should I say stomach! Thinking of you, Michelle

I had my gall blader out 15 years ago but I still remember the pain. It usually came from around the middle of my back to the right side above my rib cage. sometimes it was just right there at my ribcage and not coming from my back. It was gallstones. They took it out laparascopically and what a blessing! lol good luck

You will be so ever happy to have your gallbaldder taken out. I had mine out 25 years come this September. I waited an extra 3 days to have the lap surgery (then called key hole). and I only had one attack, it wasn't pretty, but even happier to have it taken out. Remember get up and get moving as soon as they let you. Makes the pain go away alot quicker. Julie

I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago. It was not bad at all. The surgeon said I could go home the same day but I felt more comfortable having one night in the hospital (I'd never been under general before and didn't know how I would react). I had the Hydrascan to diagnose. It is not bad. There are two parts to it. The first part is really easy - you just have to lay very still for quite a long time. When I had my done, I was told that if the results of the first part (which were available right away) were not good, I had to have the second part. The second part of the test was not horrible but not pleasant either. They give you something to make your gallbladder do something (contract maybe - I don't remember). Whatever it is, they had to call a nurse to actually administer it through the IV and then to sit there for about 15 minutes or so to see if you get sick which happens quite frequently. I felt very ill and thought I was going to be sick but I never actually did. By the time the test was done and I was on my way to work I felt fine. The only thing you really need to worry about is being bored!

I had a hydascan last summer and had to have my gallbladder removed in July 06. Honestly....the hydascan wasn't that bad. They inject you with the radioactive stuff, then you wait 30 minutes, then you lay on a table that moves you through a machine. Almost like an MRI. My head was outside the machine, but from my upper arms to around my hips was inside the machine. The worst part is you have to stay that way for almost 2 hours!!! I got antsy in there! by the way, I had an ultrasound first and it didn't show anything. Good luck.
