Home from initial consult!

Hi all! Just got back from my initial consult at Barix, and so far I'm liking them. They seem really nice, and tell me I'm a good canidate for surgery. My family doctor needs to give them some recent test results and of course, we are going to have to wait for the insurance to approve, but over-all, I'm REALLLY excited!! The downside-my family doesnt support me on this. I know they'll all be there to help me recover, but it's kinda a bummer that they dont see how important this is for me. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions to change their view? I refuse to have someone else's opinion stop me, but it would be nice to have them on my side!

Hey Sandi! My family felt the same way at first, now my mom is scheduled to have surgery in August! I don't think that it's an issue of them not being on your side, sometimes I think alot of it is just fear talking. I just recently decided to switch operations and my mom is now "scared" for me to have it....so, I think it's just sometimes people fear the unknown and don't see what an opportunity this could be for us! Hang in there, they will come around. I have also notice the more information they get from me, the more they will start to support me! Sometimes I think they don't want me to change because they love me now just the way I am! But you know as well as I do, it will be a wonderful change to not have the "weight ball" on your shoulders anymore. People just don't understand what's it's like to constantly think about your weight. Just inform them that it's a very safe procedure and keep them informed every step of the way. If they still don't come around, let them know that it really hurts your feelings and you hope that they will have a change of heart! Let me know if you need to vent about the fam! Take care!
