Consultation scheduled

Finally! I have a consultation with Dr. Fegelman on April 10th. I have been trying to see him for two months. I am a self-pay patient and am ready to go after over a year of seminars and appealing insurance. Even though my docttor wrote a letter saying she firmly believes this is my last chance for life, my insurance company will not pay for the Lap-Band. It is an exclusion and that is final. I can't believe how hard it is to see a doctor. Offices don't return calls, and the ones that do shuffle me around to different voice-mails. I hope this is the right doctor for me...it seems like I'm just a number.

Hey Nancy, Congratulations on your consult date. Just to play devils advocate here, have you done all your research and exhausted all your available resources when it comes to looking for doctors? You mentioned that you "hope this is the right doctor for me....it seems like Im just a number". Keep in mind, this Dr will be around your life for a very long time. You need to be comfortable with him and his abilities that if you have a question, concern or issue he will be attentive and responsive to your needs. I'd be worried about that if you already feel like a number to his office. Especially since you are self pay, YOU ARE PAYING HIM A LOT OF MONEY to do this surgery but its not just the surgery. Its the follow up, the post care, everything. Im not sure about where your having your surgery, I had mine at St. Vincent in Cleveland by Dr. Ben-Meir and we have a schedule of appointments that we need to attend to check on our progress. Don't forget that you will have to take blood tests every 6 or 12 months to ensure your levels are appropriate. You wouldn't want to be a patient of a Dr that you aren't 100% comfortable with PRE-OP! This is an EXTEREMLY important and life changing event you are about to embark upon. Maybe after meeting the Dr your feeling will change. I have found the folks at St. Vincent to be wonderful and they return calls promptly. That's just my experience though. Im sorry. I don't mean to sound like a "Debbie Downer", Im just concerned about your feeling pre-op in regards to this Dr. and since you are self pay, maybe your only restriction is the amount you can pay. I'll pray that you are able to make the best possible decision for you. Keep us posted. Kym
