having problems with insurence
Medical Mutual does list Gastric Bypass as a "covered" procedure. That was the first thing I checked into when I was researching having the surgery back in Jan 2006. Finally in December 2006, after have completed all the "requirment", they denied my claim and I had to appeal. They did approve my appeal and I had my surgery Feb 27. Hang in there, this is a long process. Good Luck, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Hello I am a wife of a hopefully future gastric bypass husband. We have a consult this week knowing that there is a written exclusion in the policy. Do you have a medical necessity for the surgery? co morbidities? We are hoping to hard sell our case to United Health Care. In our case the exclusion was put in by his employer Cingular Wirless. We have layed low and not called the HR rep to request the exclusion be taken off or to accept some sort of financial responsibility for the surgery. We are armed with all the medication, doctors visits and sleep apnea machines (that cant be tolerated) they are currently paying for. I did look into buying supplementary insurance.....no such thing. What is out there is services you can pay a monthly premium for and they get the wls to discount the surgery about 60 percent. It is not insurance...one of the names is Selective Health, Care Source . You can't just buy insurance for getting gastric bypass. I have obsessed over this many months. I have decided to put my faith and trust at the foot of the cross and pray we can get my husband the help he needs. I did hear some encouraging news this weekend. We have a stray IRA fund that we used to pay off some bills awhile back and it has enough left in it for a big portion of the bill. So we have hope for self pay. Have a great week .God Bless
