i think it really depends on your job and your healing rate. i went back to work 10 days after open surgery- but all i do is sit in front of a computer all day. literally. and even with that, i was given a weight lifting limit of 10 lbs on my return to work papers. at your follow up appointment you and your doctor can talk about how you're healing and see where to go from there. but count on a few weeks at least!

Hey Cindy, I agree with the previous post. It really depends on your rate of healing and what the Dr. feels about your RTW. Best wishes to you! Kym =)

Depends on: Lap vs open and your job. I had lap RNY and if I sat at a desk all day, could have gone back in two weeks. Because I spend 1/2 my week getting in and out of a car carrying a lap top that weigh 15+ lbs in its case, I was off just over 5 weeks and had a very light week my first week back. I would guess that you would need 4-6 weeks, ask the surgeon for his advice. I had done my research and had to 'present my case' at PAT to get the staff to sign off on 5 weeks of leave. Gabby
