Hi there! I have a question for you, is there anyone in the forum who has been approved for surgery through anthem ppo? I was told that they would not cover when I called. I have read others post that anthem ppo did approve them but most dates were older. Is there anyone out there that has been approved currently through them? Any advise?? I am in need of some!!

Anthem Inc, are not all alike, my daughter has Anthem they paid for hers, mine is Anthem blue access ppo it has a exclusion, i guess it depends on if it is self paid, or company paid from the employer, i have been told. Try and post this on the INC board, hopfuly you can get some answers there. Good Luck i wish you all the best. Delilah

That is correct, it's totally employer driven. If you have an exclusion it's very difficult to beat. Dr. C Cincinnati, Ohio Got a question? I have Anthem PPO and was approved for the DS in only a couple of months (I'm 1 yr out) and DH was approved in 5 wks (he's 9 mos out). But, as others have already said it varies widely by your individual policy. Good Luck! Kim

Hi I have Anthem Blue Access PPO and I was approved in less than 48 hrs. Surgery is scheduled for April 19th. It depends on if the employer has an exclusion for WLS. Good Luck, Debbie

I was approved on March 5th by Anthem BC/BS PPO. I had an answer in 24 hours, I believe. It depends upon if the employer has an exclusion written into your policy. Good Luck! -Karen

Just wanted to update my post, I called the insurance company and asked if there was an exclusion in my plan and the girl answering said "YES" . I was disappointed to hear the news but not a heck of a lot I can do about it. I started dieting watching the carbs and sugars...I am down 23 pounds. I have 100 more pounds to lose. I am sure it wont happen over night and I am praying I can do this on my own. I am so afraid of failing once again...it is scarry! I have started walking and am up to a mile every other day. Hell that is an accomplishment since I couldn't hardly walk up and down my stairs without getting out of breath. Man how the heck did I let myself get like this?? What was I blind??? I am just totally disgusted looking fat and and feeling like people are starring at me!! I may need to come and sound off. I am upset with the insurance, what are they thinking....oh I forgot they aren't!! Well I will try to stay upbeat and keep moving forward, if there are any believers out there I sure could use your prayers! Thanks for listening to me whine!! Cherie

Ah... Don't give up just yet. You can speak to your hr department, or better yet, write a letter stating your position. You could probably get a lot of help on this by posting on the insurance board here at OH. Sometimes you can change the policy. Also, be proud of what you have accomplished so far! Don't be disgusted with how you are now, LOVE yourself and be gentle and non-judgmental with yourself. There are enough people out there being judgmental! I wish I could give you a hug! Don't give up on researching different ways to have surgery, either. My policy had an exclusion through UHC, so I changed policies at the next open enrollment to one that DID cover the surgery without any exclusions. I will keep you in my prayers! hugs, Karen
