REASSURANCE
I just got approved for surgery today and I am so excited I can hardly stand it! In addition, I am nervous, scared and sick of people telling me I am going to die or regret having the surgery.
I have not had a chance to put anything on my profile yet, but plan to do so soon. I want to pay forward the inspirational, successful moments of my weight loss like so many of you have shared with me. I love reading all your profiles...the trials and tribulations that have come with this life changing event are so awesome.
Just a little bit about myself...I am 36 years old and have managed to diet my weight up to 225 pounds (I am only 5"3, I might add that my BMI is 40) and I am sick of being overweight and out of control! I can't get this weight off by myself, and feel so blessed to be given this opportunity for success at weight loss. My surgery was approved after only 4 days (thank God) so I have not had much time to soak all this in.
I am having surgery in Groveport, Ohio and Dr. Viglianco is the surgeon.
Any positive feedback would make me feel so much better. I need reassurce from people who have traveled this journey already on the pros and cons.
Welcome Kimberly,
Congratulations on your approval. I just received approval and am awaiting for the final ok from my insurance company. I'm going through OSU and Dr. Mikami will be doing my surgery. I still haven't made up my mind and am leaning heavily towards LapBand. I am 5'1" and weigh 217. My highest weight was 234. I can't wait to be able to play with my grandkids and walk from my car to the store without having to stop and catch my breath. It will be so nice to be able to wake up in the morning refreshed and not hurting all over. I can remember a time when my daughter and I would power walk the mall, I don't even go to the mall any more.
It is definitately time for us to take our lives back. Good luck on your journey. Let us know your surgery date.
Peggy
Hi!
You want feedback about the surgery right.....well
Pro's....healthier you! Aches and pains go away......you are able to walk without huffing and puffing.....no more sleep apnea (I had it)....can tie shoes without getting cramps...can fit into any chair or booth in front of me....not to mention being able to shop for clothes not in the women's department!
Con's.....Waited too long...should have pursued it a couple of years ago...at least!
Always cold......hanging skin....food issues (I can't eat meat....but can eat turkey).....
You can see that the pro's far outweigh the con's.....I would do it again in a heartbeat!
Good luck...and just a word from the wise....the fewer people you tell ahead of time the less "stories" that you will hear. Sometimes they are concerned that you are making a drastic choice in losing weight but other's are concerned that you will change and no longer want to be friends with them......I would hold off in telling until after the surgery!
I can't give you anything on your choice of hospital or DR....I live north and went to University Hospital in Cleveland and had Dr. John Jasper.....great place....great surgeon!

325/goal130/current 122....and 21 months out!
I'm just a few weeks post op, but I didn't tell many people about my surgery. I told a few close family members and 2 of my girlfriends. No one at work knows, or my neighbors or my husbands family. I only told people that I knew would support my decision to do this and so far so good!!! My response to the very few times that one of these people has said, "but what if...." has been "I've done a ton of research and put alot of thought into this". That seemed to make them think.
Good luck!!
